Re: 25 shades of random

I found you composition to be interesting and wonder how you write such a thing. You say it is randomness with constraints - but was it really totally algorithmic? Do you listen to what you have produced and decide to add another part? Some sections seem partly sequenced - at least I heard "Si...

25 shades of random

Hi everyone, I'm happy to announce the birth of my first algorithmic composition: 25 shades of random . In this composition I make some basic exploration about how constraints can "tame" (limit) randomness to make a trade-off between "artificial creativity" and "aptness to h...

Re: Alba - a Csound tone poem

This is a very nice composition. I am currently working on an (algorithmic) composition myself, and I love some of the things I heard in your piece. I'm currently using yoshimi and linuxsampler but I'm still fascinated with csound (and supercollider, and pure data, ...). My only fear there was the (...

Re: Anybody care for an un-competition?

@nachei: Thanks for listening and commenting :) I used presets included with lmms; i may have added an effect in audacity afterwards, i don't remember
(but i mostly used audacity to fix synchronization problems between the voices and to remove the worst breathing)

Re: System "almost" perfect! (SOLVED)

General advice. Before editing /etc/fstab, make a copy $ cd /etc $ sudo cp fstab fstab.0 off-topic: wondering now if /etc could somehow be stored in a git repository, with some way to revert to a previous version during early boot. Secondly also wondering if that would lead to anything useful :)

Re: lilypond questio

I'm not sure if you can predefine a number of measures per line, but
you can certainly insert \break to force moving the next measure to the next line.

Re: Open Source section

Fantasies and pipedreams don't lend themselves well to competing with the minions of Gates, Jobs, and the Androids. Weird. Last time I checked Android was quickly overtaking Apple's iOS in popularity (despite?) being free open source software http://source.android.com/source/licenses.html . I'm not...

Re: how do you compose your songs?

I usually start from a text (often a poem). If it inspires me, some of its lines it will automatically trigger melodies and harmonies and rythms which I write down and then flesh out behind the piano. When I get stuck, I will start to continuously repeat the part I already had, and then each time tr...

Re: Lilypond page layout

If by "Coda" you mean the "Coda symbol", probably this can inspire you: http://lsr.dsi.unimi.it/LSR/Item?id=202 If by "Coda" you mean "an expanded cadence", I'm not sure what you want to achieve but perhaps the following can be useful: http://lilypond.org/doc/...
