It is true. I sold my wife on a nice pair of rockit 10-3's by comparing side by side regular "hi-fi" speakers and flat response monitors. Also convinced her I needed a nice pair of headphones. I ended up with those shure srh-880's. The sound pretty nice after their break in period.
