Re: general aspects regarding hardware performances
There's also the Behringer UCG102 which is reported to work under Linux and it's cheap at around $30. That "Guitarlink" cable you tried could be some imitation or copy of the Behringer. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1457334&page=2&s=3503c322d9339a9c029b427f12899649 Guys...

I have a laptop with the following specs: Intel Core i3, 1.8 GHz/3MB Cache Intel HD Graphics VGA 4 GB DDR3-1600MHz RAM 2 x USB 2.0 1 x USB 3.0 HDMI I'm thinking about buying a Focusrite Scarlet Solo ( http://us.focusrite.com/usb-audio-interfaces/scarlett-solo/specifications ) as a means to plug my g...

Re: Assigning default input jack for ALSA on an on board car
Well actually when I open qjacktl in the audio input tab there are only two "system capture" instances and nothing more. Same goes for Cadence/Claudia. I never used only ALSA for audio until now, usually it was Ubuntu with Pulse, where I would set the input from the sound menu applet. I gu...

Assigning default input jack for ALSA on an on board card
I've installed Lubuntu on my old pc that I plan to use only for practicing and transcribing music, nothing fancy with it. I've had some nice results with its on board sound card in the past with Ubuntu, but It can no longer cope with it. The only problem I have is that, since it doesn't use pulseaud...

Does anybody have experience with this USB sound card?
I am contemplating on this idea of buying a cheap usb sound card for my laptop, and then build some nice preamps or maybe even a mini mixer for it, like a little project. So I saw this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB-7-1-Channel-5-1-Optical-Audio-Sound-Card-External-Audio-Sound-Card-CM6206/17830...

Re: Newbie: Best Instrument-Samples / VSTi
I would say that sometimes terms like "better" or "worse" when it comes to sounds and music is rather a subjective matter, a personal preference. It's obvious that Linux world is lacking the variety of synths, and although there are some very good, even free effects and instrumen...

Re: Why I'm giving up on KXStudio
You completely changed the focus of what I said. Nope. You summarized your view in this statement: It's just a meaningless, automatic reaction rooted in an outdated culture. This whole episode is a non-event. It should probably be ignored. And I disagree. I'm old too. I understand your statement ab...

Re: Why I'm giving up on KXStudio
Yes, yes, KXStudio repo's actually spoiled aaaall that "linux geek fun" of downloading a source app, then read the readme file and find out that you have to install something called "dependencies". Then you go to install those, and more often than not, they too have their own depe...

Re: Why people don't like Unity and Ubuntu?
I am trying to configure my Ubuntu 15.04 + Unity to be responsive because the lags annoy me too much. All the tweaks I did were like OS centric (swappinnes, mount parameters etc). Do you have some tips to make Unity more responsive? I will have to work with it a while and, although it is not so bad...

Re: Why people don't like Unity and Ubuntu?
I've been reading all of your reasons and arguments, and, save for the personal preference, I really don't know what the hell are you guys talking about when you speak about heavy on resources, being bloated and what not. :) While I admit, xfce is of course a lot lighter DE, when configured right, a...

Re: Video Editors
Here's to the argue that we had about how Unity is bad, and how XFCE is good awhile ago. I use Kdenlive with Unity on a regular basis, even created a movie for a short documentary festival with it, and it never crashes on me

Guitar to MIDI
Today I tried some Windows VST's, Guitar MIDI and a free one called MiGiC, but I couldn't get any good results like in the demo videos, so I wonder, is there some similar app for Linux. Rakarrack can convert to MIDI, but I guess it's not stable, or the synth that I tried it with(setBfree) didn't lik...
