Re: Linux supported 8-port MIDI interface - which to buy?
I have a 'M-Audio MidiSport 2x2 Anniversary Edition' I've got one too.. also the original M-Audio Midisport 2x2, and a MOTU pocket Express (POSflyer) but none of these are 8-in/8-out interfaces, nor is the suggested Edirol UM3G, which is a 3 port device. I appreciate the input from you both but it'...

Linux supported 8-port MIDI interface - which to buy?
Any suggestions for a MIDI interface (8 in, 8 out) that works well with Linux? What would be the best, most trouble-free interface? Are there any made who's manufacturer actually supplies and maintains linux drivers? I'm really beyond sick of wasting my life away trying to get my MOTU MTP AV (first ...

Someone should have stopped kokoshmusun dead in his/her tracks here... ....I noticed that I was not in the audio group. I entered these two commands below ... sudo usermod -G audio [user] sudo adduser [user] audio DO NOT "sudo usermod -G audio [user]" this will remove you from every other ...

Re: kxstudio - adding user to audio group breaks perms??
no.. I should have just done: sudo adduser <username> audio sudo usermod -G audio <username> (as I've seen suggested here on this forum) will REMOVE your user from ALL the groups you need to be a part of and just add you to the audio group. If you find yourself in this hell you need to edit your /et...

kxstudio - adding user to audio group breaks perms??
Ok, so Wine wasn't working because my user was not in the audio group. So, I added my user to the audio group in the terminal with: sudo usermod -G audio rob sudo adduser rob audio after a reboot I did not have permission to access my mount points in /media. so I attempted to chmod them sudo chmod -...

Re: Dawn of a new DAW
installing from source is usually not a big deal, but these instructions after step 2 are a little confusing: - To compile OOMidi, run the following commands from the top level directory where the source code was unpacked (the directory where THIS README FILE is): # Create build directory. Choose an...

Re: KX Studio - installation questions
First, thanks for your responses... This is a mis-conception people have - "dist-upgrade" does not mean upgrading the ubuntu version . This just means "install and upgrade everything... ...Yes, updates in Ubuntu are not always good... Ok first, I realize dist-upgrade does not update t...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
Why is the user we set up while installing KX not added to the audio group to begin with? Are there other tweaks we must make in order to be ready for primetime w/ kxstudio? *bump* These steps could just be handled by the "KXStudio Welcome" configuration utility, but are not for some reas...

KX Studio - installation questions
Is the netboot install more than just convenient? I've heard it mentioned in the tuning forum that it's recommended to use the netboot ubuntu installer, not the full-fledged 10.04 ubuntu lucid installer. Why? just smaller/faster to install or is there more to this? apt-get dist-upgrade a LTS releas...

Re: KX studio - manual installed renoise full+sunvox noGo
yeah. downloaded and installed the core os at work while multitasking - chalk this off as an ID 10T error.
I must have grabbed x32 NOT x64. i slap my forehead in mass embarrassment.
now.. how do I add these applications (renoise and sunvox) to Klaudia?

Re: KX studio - manual installed renoise full+sunvox noGo
got it figured out. I had installed ubuntu 10.04 x64, and apparently the kxstudio low latency kernel is 32x?? I was trying to run sunvox and renoise x64 after updating ubuntu 10.04 x64 following these steps: http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Help:Ubuntu:Upgrade but apparently the kx low latency kernel...

Re: Help setting up KXStudio
I noticed that I was not in the audio group. I entered these two commands below and either one of them (don't know which) did the job of adding me to the audio group (so now, there is a green check in Cadence for that item). sudo usermod -G audio [user] sudo adduser [user] audio I had that here too...
