Re: Looking for a "MIDI transistor" (on/off midi gate, midi controlled)

I think you could do this with mididings which is a python package to control midi. In particular, mididings has the concept of "scenes" which are different midi setups which are toggled by midi control signals. So you just need to define 2 scenes one with the midi output connected, one with midi ou...

Re: Carla & SoundFonts

Soundfont and SFZ are different types of sample files. The soundfont format is quite old though you still might find some that sound OK depending on your tastes, needs. Carla is a plugin host and can play both Soundfonts and SFZ (as well as gigasampler format). When you start Carla the first time yo...

Re: Korg Legacy VST hosting on Linux?

I just tried to install Reactor Player 6 with wine (on AVLinux 2017.4.9) and the installer said Windows 7 or higher was required, so that did not work. Any work-around for this problem? Thanks.

Re: Guitarix 0.35.4 released

Thanks for your reply and all the good work on guitarix. I figured out the problem was the NoScript add-on I have on firefox which for some reason would not allow the download. I switched to Chrome and downloaded the script.

Re: Guitarix 0.35.4 released

I tried download the GxPlugins installer and got this message: This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. I also tried downloading from here https://github.com/brummer10/GxPlugins.lv2/releases. I saved GxPlugins-amd-gcc5.run by d...

Re: Midi2usb interfaces

Don't know about those cables specifically but they will certainly work on linux. Cables are passive devices and do not depend on OS. In general, nearly all midi devices are compatible with linux. However, configuration programs for some devices likely would not work (but not all devices have/need a...

Good tutorial on Jack: http://libremusicproduction.com/article ... arted-jack You may find other useful tutorials on that site.
Also Ardour Support page points to other useful references: https://community.ardour.org/community

Re: Ardour, Fluidsynth help requested

I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do. I'm guessing that you want to use the midi signal from your USB piano to drive an SF2 which has been loaded into to qsynth and record the audio with Ardour. I don't really understand why you would need VMPK to do this. If this is what you want to do, the...

Re: connect usb mic input first to reaper ,then to output

What you want to do is very simple with Jack -- see: http://libremusicproduction.com/articles/demystifying-jack-%E2%80%93-beginners-guide-getting-started-jack . I see the Beringer U-Control UCA222 has a "monitor" on/off switch which probably controls direct monitoring of the inputs (sending input to...

Re: Showing scale in Ardour piano roll?

I don't believe Ardour keeps track of what key you are using. Perhaps you could make a midnam file for a certain key. Other than that you could make a feature request to Ardour at: http://tracker.ardour.org/

Re: How to link an input automatically to qsynth?

You can write a script to start qsynth and use aconnect to make the midi connection, something like this: #!/bin/bash qsynth & aconnect 14:0 131:0 Use acconnect -i and acconnect -o to see your alsa midi connections. In my case: $ aconnect -i client 0: 'System' [type=kernel] 0 'Timer ' 1 'Announce ' ...

Re: Aeolus plugin

Aoelus is only a standalone so it will not work with carla. Unfortunately the aoelus author thinks poorly of the lv2 plugin standard so thats one reason its has never been made into a plugin. As far as I can see the source code is GPL so someone else could do it.

Re: n00b first question

Sounds like your Pro40 is older so it likely works. The best way to see if it works is to boot kxstudio 14.04 from a USB drive or DVD and try to start the Pro40 as Jack firewire device. kxstudio 14.04 uses ffado, its kernel does not have the snd_dice support. ffado has some command line utilities to...

Re: n00b first question

Older versions of the focusrite saffire pro 40 can work well on linux but newest models have been redesigned and do not work completely. You best resource is ffado.org (see Pro40 warning on main page, and also check out the page under "Device Support"). I have an older Pro24 which works well with ff...

Re: Youtube sound issues following firefox upgrade

As a (hopefully temporary) work-around you can use the Chromium browser for youtube. Thats what I've been doing since firefox youtube sound broke.
