Re: Ultralite AVB

Started development of an AVB driver for my intel i210 ethernet controller. Today i was successfully playing/recording my first 8 in/ 8 out AVB stream with my 16A. :D

Re: Prism Sound interface ?

The device is recognized by alsa just fine and looking at the USB descriptors it shouldn't need any quirks. Its alsa name is hw:1 or Titan Should work out of the box. BTW if you have enough ram >= 4GB, you can install virtualbox and a macOS or Win in it with the configuration tool of the Titan. Then...

Re: Prism Sound interface ?

Hi Swing, in order to not clutter the forum i'd like to do this using PMs. First i need some information. Open a terminal with the device unplugged and: 1. Enter tail -f /var/log/syslog then plug the device into the USB port. Hit ctrl-c and save the output of the above command into a file, e.g. sysl...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Tweaking Win10 for audio takes about 30 minutes. Tweaking Linux for audio takes. No, tweaking Linux for audio takes about 5 minutes, provided you know what to do and have an RT kernel installed. And, after the tweaks have been done, you still have xruns, there is either a kernel bug, cpu overload o...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

Looking the endpoint descriptor of the Zomm, it sends/receives 1 isochronous packet every 1 millisecond, so it will work best at buffersizes that are an exact multiple of samplerate/1000, e.g. 48, 96 .. at 48000.

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

You are using 3 periods instead of 2. That is that extra buffer needed by jack i am talking about.

Btw lillith's Zoom uses isochronous-adaptive endpoints, not isochronous-asynchronous ones.

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

and since AFAICS isochronous asynchronous audio endpoints were introduced in USB 3.1 I'd say this does not have anything to do with the problem lilith is facing. I think you mix up fullduplex operation, that was introduced with USB 3.0 with the synchronization types that are part of the USB spec si...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

I guess the Zoom is a USB interface that uses isochronous asynchronous audio endpoints. Due to the broken design of jack and all major DAWs, even when using alsa (= allowing only fixed size buffers), this cannot work with such devices. The same design error also exists in ASIO/WIndows and is the rea...

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

There is no need to run for a new graphics card unless you assured it really is the culprit.

Re: Standard test needed to benchmark XRUNs

The HDA is fine. The problem is most likely the nvidia graphics card. Here are the results with my system: AMD Athlon II X4 620 Onboard AMD graphic HDA with ALC889 Samplerate 48000 Buffersize is 128 jack running with realtime priority Xrun 1 at DSP load 98.455978 ... in complete 4 Xruns in 8148 circ...

Re: Ultralite AVB

I did some research today with the 1.3.4-xxx firmware and created a patch (against linux-4.19.5). - Changing the sample rate will still take about 10 seconds to complete due to the interface completely reorganizing internally. So, if you are using jack, set the timeout value to 10 seconds. - In case...

Re: Presonus Quantum Thunderbolt

This driver is somewhat equivalent to the USB host controller driver for USB.
What it does is reserve the PCIe lines and make the device visible to the system (i.e. can be seen with lspci).
For the device to actually work, it requires a device specific proprietarty driver.

Re: Presonus Quantum Thunderbolt

No, it won't work.

Thunderbolt takes you back to the times when every interface required its own propriatery driver.
If you're on linux, avoid it like the plague.

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

@Nuri: Please upload the reaper project without the samples of the audio tracks. What looks odd at first sight is that reaper's own realtme code requires twice as much CPU on Linux as on W10. And why on earth are you using jack?
