Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

Have been away from Arch for a few weeks. The latest Wine (1.1.35 at the time) led to some out of control CPU usage by certain VSTs for some reason in Reaper, and in trying to downgrade Wine, I somehow messed things up worse, lost my patience and jumped ship to Debian Squeeze and the RT kernel from ...

Re: openmamba

I tested it out. The install went ok, with a lengthy added base install step via the internet after the first boot that I would have skipped if I had known it would take so long. Otherwise the distro looks nice. It does have a RT kernel and jack and qjackctl along with appropriate limits.conf by def...

I recently borked my Chakra/Archaudio installation and decided to do a little distro-hopping while I wait for the next Chakra release. My main requirements are a realtime kernel and wineasio, with which I run Reaper. I've also come to prefer KDE (although I know it's heavy for audio work). I was alm...

Re: pulseaudio

Removing pulse used to be the first thing I would do when setting up Ubuntu for recording. in Ubuntu Karmic it is now tied to the sound configuration in Ubuntu's Gnome desktop too tightly, and you end up removing the volume control applet and sound settings controls if you remove pulse. When I teste...

Re: Help with setting up Arch DAW environment

This thread is a little old, but I thought I would mention my recent experiences with Archaudio. I've been doing quite a bit of distro-hopping lately, and have been curious about Arch, but also a bit intimidated by it. Because of this, the Chakra project (Arch + KDEmod live/install CD) has been of g...

Re: a replacement for rezound?

simta, Thanks for the tip on mhWaveEdit. I have regularly used Audacity to touch up my final exports from Reaper, i.e. fade-in, fade-out, chop off click intros, normalize, etc. For whatever reason, since upgrading to Jaunty, Audacity locks up very regularly (usually when executing a fade-in or out)....

Re: Experimenting with kernel 2.6.28

Thanks. I will run jack in RT mode. So far, performance looks good on this kernel without RT patch. Only a few xruns when loading big vsts in Reaper with wineasio. Nothing during playback though. I haven't tried recording yet. Just playing some decently sized old projects with audio and midi plus so...

Re: Experimenting with kernel 2.6.28

A quick question for thorgal: I've recently installed Mepis 8 RC1 and a 2.6.28 kernel someone has made a package for at mepislovers.org. It is running well, but I was wondering - are you running jackdmp in RT mode or not? I have modified my limits.conf file and can get jackd to start in RT mode via ...
