Re: Some new "experimental" work up on soundcloud
Anyhow, it's a great mix, I special like it from time 3.33 brings a smile in my face, :D So, as a theoretical question, you don't except any problems when you try to recreate this song under a linux environment, or , do you use tools witch aren’t GPL'd or wouldn't run under Linux ? It's a ll plain ...

Re: Some new "experimental" work up on soundcloud
Ah... I see now, my post was unclear. I meant specifically "Affectations: Torso" -- that one was all Linux (except for some editing in *gasp*choke* Cubase, which I used only because I'm teaching it and I'm more familiar with it than Ardour... and I haven't used Ardour much just because DAW...

Some new "experimental" work up on soundcloud
To ring in the new year, I put my best work from 2010 on soundcloud.
Have a great 2011, everybody!

(Almost 100% linux produced. All sound synthesis and sequencing by SuperCollider.)

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
However, I do notice your 'ksoftirqd' processes are using 'regular' scheduling instead of 'realtime priority' scheduling - the 'TS -' in your 'ps' output shows that. You could use 'chrt -f -p <rtpriority> <pid>' to make those processes use SCHED_FIFO scheduling. But perhaps that is 'too late' someh...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Ohhhhhhh. "linux-realtime" it is... heh heh. ksoftirq's are gone, now real sirq's.
Now on 2.6.33-29-realtime #1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT RT... will see how that goes. Why did I put that off for so long?
James

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Interesting read. I got very, very different output from sudo ps -eLo pid, cls, rtprio, pri, nice, cmd | grep -i "irq" so I'm not sure how to implement those recommendations. dlm@dlm-laptop:~$ sudo ps -eLo pid, cls, rtprio, pri, nice, cmd | grep -i "irq" | more [sudo] password for dlm: 4 T...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
But pri = 19, that seems a bit low to me. most graphic cards run with 50, so they will disturb your workflow when you stay under this level , I use 89, for example. Incidentally -- http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10287577&postcount=7 According to here and here , a lower rtprio value mean...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
BTW, I'm still having large spikes. I modified the above ps command to show me every real-time thread. These (rather a lot) have a higher priority than Jack. Is there a way to lower the priority of these system processes? Thanks, James ps -Leo class, comm, rtprio | grep -E [^-]$ CLS COMMAND RTPRIO FF ...

Nimen hao from China
Quick introduction, after posting a couple of system tuning questions. (Thanks to the responders for some very good help, and quick help too!) I've been a devoted SuperCollider user for years and a recent convert to Linux (about five or six months ago). It was a combination of the general coolness o...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Ah... "-S" appears to be a "magic fix" in several forum threads. Precious little information online about exactly what synchronous mode does. I had thought I would need to avoid synchronous mode because it's "like Jack1" but I don't want xruns to kill the client like Ja...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Ah, right you are, and the priority does show up properly now.
I'll run with this for a few days and see if it's better.
Thanks!
James

Hm, wait, still confused. Starting manually at the commandline: /usr/bin/jackd -R -P56 -dalsa -dhw:0 -r44100 -p1024 -n2 -s jackdmp 1.9.6 Copyright 2001-2005 Paul Davis and others. Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Great! Thanks for the specifics. I looked at the Setup... box in qjackctl but somehow completely overlooked the one control for priority. Will try it later tonight. I'm not frightened by any of this, by the way -- I don't mind getting my hands a bit dirty (though I do like to have some hints before ...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Thanks for the explanation. Assume I've been on Linux for only about half a year and that I don't have a lot of experience manipulating process priorities -- that would be a correct assumption. How do I bump up the rtprio? I thought (from some web resources) that setting the audio group properties i...

Re: JackActivationCount::Signal - how to stop it?
Okay... this is in my /etc/security/limits.conf: @audio - rtprio 80 @audio - memlock 2883888 @audio - nice -10 And I am (of course) a member of the audio group. However, jackd is starting with nice = 0 (why not -10?) and pri = 19. ps x -o pid,ni,pri,rtprio,comm | grep jackd 1816 0 19 - jackd Is that...
