Or you could just use Musix distro which does this out of the box. Live CD for newbies. Templates (or rather examples) when you open Ardour & Rosegarden.

Hey - I used to run jack as root! Nothing wrong with it. Chris - try Musix 2.0 this distribution is for musicians not coders and it just freaking works - it comes as a live CD so you will not have to uninstall your machine to test it. Hi Dave - I'm also on the east coast (Melb). What distro did you end up going for? I recommend Musix 2.0 - Static distro that is set up to go and as far as I have seen v.stable. I only use it for a home studio but have given the v1.0 a pretty decent workout and had no issues. 2.0 is even better. Ubu...

Such a fantastic distro - I was finding v1.0 a little old but had been using it happily for ages - had switched to Ubuntu Studio for a newer release but found it far too unstable. So happy with the new release. Rock on Musix!
