Re: Remix_OS

Thanks Remixer, good to know.
I just saw that you've got version 11.05 out. Is there an easy way to upgrade from 10.10?
Your system works great for me as an ubuntu alternative, so also for non-audio stuff.

Re: Rediscovered, just for fun

Nice one too! You're right, slightly out of tune but very tasty otherwise.
What was the name of your band in those days?

Re: Rediscovered, just for fun

Don't take this too seriously, it was not our style and more or less fooling around for fun. But if someone gets a laugh out of it, we certainly accomplished our goal here: http://soundcloud.com/radiomatic/riding-on-a-cow This is worth much more than a laugh, Jan. Pity about the recording quality, ...

Re: Rediscovered, just for fun

Good stuff! Really! I've always liked the mix of keyboards and rock guitars (and as for the English, don't worry, I've heard far worse)
Got any more? How long did you keep playing with your band back then?

Re: Remix_OS

Hi,

I started using/trying Remix_OS a short while ago and I like it a lot.

Q: Reaper using wineasio (and jackd with it) runs as root. Does that mean I can't connect other apps (not running as root) to jack at the same time?

Thanks

Re: AV Linux 4.0 'Black n' Blue' Released!

Wow, thanks for mentioning.
I recently added AVLinux 3.1 to my machine to dual boot with (the superb) Arch.
Haven't done much with AV yet but it seems extremely good especially if you're looking for a ready-to-go system.
I'll definitely upgrade to 4.0 as soon as I get around to it.

Cheers

Re: Crossing the Arch

ArchBang is Alpha, but like Chakra Aplha the only things that are Alpha are their tools. So for ArchBang the only Alpha stuff should be their installer, hardware detection, etc. If the system installs OK on your system it should just be a matter of........ sudo pacman -Syu and the system is up to d...

Re: Name that guitar!

Ah, Headbangers Ball. That's when MTV used to play actual music, right? ;-) I used to love MTV - my favourite was Rebecca deRuvo (yummy!), I think she was on 'Dial MTV'. Oh yes, and Ray Cokes was the best. I wonder how I understood what they talked about. I was 13 or 14 at the time. Yep, the good o...

Re: Name that guitar!

Congratulations Jan! The names Nuno Bettencourt and Extreme bring back memories of the early 90's to me when I was quite a fan of hard rock and metal. I remember Nuno as an outstanding guitarist and seeing him in interviews on MTV (where I used to watch 'Headbangers Ball' back in those days :) ) By ...

Re: Crossing the Arch

It's working !!! After putting in the ati card and installing xf86-video-ati everything is fine now even with kernel26rt (was my mistake not to trust ati after it hadn't worked with arch in my other machine). Still doesn't explain why the intel graphics wouldn't work with rt even after compiling xf8...

Re: Crossing the Arch

for the rt kernel and other audio apps: Repositories We have a total of three binary “repos” on our server. For now only our testing repository is really active, but we recommend adding all of them to /etc/pacman.conf (replace i686 with x86_64 for 64-bit): Wow, thanks a lot. I guess that saves me a...

Re: Crossing the Arch

After 3 years of ubuntu I just wanted to share my first experiences so far with Arch. I started using/learning it about 3 weeks ago after reading this thread and I think it's absolutely great! Yes, installing it was a struggle (What? You want me to review/edit a dozen config files? What? I have to m...

Re: Musikmesse Frankfurt - Who is going?

Yes, I was there. I don't know what instrument you play, but there was not that much for guitarists, if one looked for something really new or exciting... Thanks a lot for the details. I play piano and keyboards but I really like guitars and admire their players. I tried it myself some years ago bu...

Re: Musikmesse Frankfurt - Who is going?

I may be the only one here who lives close to Frankfurt, but nonetheless I want to know if anyone of you is going to the Musikmesse Frankfurt this year? It should be interesting as usual. I am really looking forward to go on Thursday, if anyone of you is there also it would be cool to meet. Right i...

Re: Crossing the Arch

Oh well, being a beginner in this field Might be better to switch early. I've been using debian-based systems for around 5 years now (not only for music), and now, everytime I want to install something on Arch, I type apt-ge<bksp><bksp><bksp><bksp>pacman I've been on Ubuntu for about 3 years (I'm o...
