Re: Tascam us-122 in 12.04 and 14.04

Wow, thanks!
I won't get around to trying it before the end of the week. Will post again then.

Cheers

Re: Tascam us-122 in 12.04 and 14.04

Yes, medibuntu repos have long been removed. But their contents (alsa-firmware and so on) should be available from the current repos. Anyway, I tried it on yet another computer (also KXStudio 12.04 x64) and it's working there! No jack errors like described above. No idea why. The thing is, I really ...

Tascam us-122 in 12.04 and 14.04

I've been trying to set up that good old us-122 USB interface. This is how far I've got: On a KXS 12.04_x64 system: After doing a 'sudo usx2yloader' the green LED came on and I could select 'hw:USX2Y,0 [US-X2Y Audio]' in Cadence. But then starting jack fails: ERROR: cannot register object path "/org...

Ah, good to know. Makes perfect sense to have such an option, I think. Reaper has it too. Couldn't find it in T5 though.

Re: Tracktion5 has arrived

I don't know about T5 specifically, but typically plugins are running all the time its just silence going through them.. I wasn't aware of that, but you're totally right. Just tested it with Ardour and got the same behaviour. I've been mainly working with Reaper (under both Win and WINE) and there ...

Re: Tracktion5 has arrived

Hi
Been playing around with Tracktion 5.3.9 in KX 12.04. Looking great.
I just noticed that CPU usage goes up (without any playback taking place) as soon as I put plugins on an audio track. It's as if the track was being played and processed.
Is that normal behaviour?

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

Grab the installer from reaper.fm, the 32-bit one that says it works with WINE of course. Create an empty directory, preferably in the c: drive of .wine (let's call it 'New Reaper') and when you run the reaper installer make sure that is where it gets installed. After that, as root, go to /opt/reap...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

If you create a symlink in Favorites, the linked file or folder will appear to be in Favorites, along with where it actually is. Reaper's "open project" dialog box shows me the folder "Favorites" but I don't know what location in the file system that refers to. But it just dawned on me that all I h...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

Assuming your file manager is Dolphin, since you say you're using KxStudio, navigate to the directory you want the symlinked folder or file in; right click>Create New>Basic link to file or directory. But how do I make those symlinks appear in 'Favorites' in the 'open project' dialog box? I don't kn...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

... isn't there a dropdown box where is shows the directory name and will let you jump to other folders? The .wine directory can be a hassle to navigate because of the complexity. I'm planning on utilizing symlinks heavily to simplify navigation, probably in the Favorites folder since that usually ...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

Two minor issues here with Reaper in KXStudio. - Every time I open a project file I have to navigate my way down doubleclicking from / to the desired folder. There's no '..' or 'level up' button in that selection box either. It does remeber the last opened file but there's no way to navigate up agai...

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

PatS: To upgrade Reaper under KX, uninstall its package then install a newer version as you would a regular Windows/wine app by running its installer. Yes, I think it is best you run REAPER x64 if you are running 64bit Linux and don't need any 32bit only plugins. I just found that Reaper gets updat...

OK, thanks a lot!
I'm tempted to try it on Arch (which I used for a while some time ago) but I guess I'll stick with KX for now.

Re: Are there happy Linux Reaper users?

I've played around a bit with Reaper included in KXStudio 12.04.3 Working nicely so far, I'd say. Wineasio, JACK, my Firewire device (Presonus FP10) are all doing what they're supposed to. Just a few questions in case somebody can help. How can I update Reaper? Is it safe to just download their inst...
