Re: Audacity
That's probably the worst howto page ever
It only complicates things and doesn't even explain how to use a USB mic in Audacity.

My brother-in-law has one. It's plug and play. Haven't tested it extensively though but it appears to be a usable device.

Re: Configuration 'quickscan'
I would disable wifi in favour of an onboard network card for the simple reason that a lot of wifi devices are USB devices: jeremy@soushi:~$ lsusb | grep -i wlan Bus 003 Device 002: ID 03f0:171d Hewlett-Packard Wireless (Bluetooth + WLAN) Interface [Integrated Module] And concerning PulseAudio on Ub...

Re: Configuration 'quickscan'
You could try lowering your periods/buffer to 2. And maybe 'Force 16bit' helps.

Hello plexi45, I have an ASUS notebook with almost the same onboard SiS card. It won't work properly with JACK at lower settings.

Cool!! I've taken a look at it to package it myself but Non uses customised configure scripts so I didn't dig in it deeper yet.

I prefer Aqualung. And VLC has a JACK plugin and Rhythmbox works with JACK too.
I don't trust Audacious, it's still too buggy for me.

Re: How to make the life of Linux audio newbies easier
Pros: The wiki does have an 'upload' feature, and already has the user management stuff down. Cons: I'm not sure if it'd scale well, and it doesn't really allow for programmatic uploads very well. Certainly a good candidate - the fact that it's already up and running is a definite plus ;). When it ...

Isn't it possible to use the LinuxMusician Wiki for this?

Hello rkwatts, welcome!
I'm with SR, Fedora 12 might be a good choice coming from a Red Hat background. I use F12 intensively at work and I like it. I'm still considering switching to F12 for audio production too but for the moment I'm happy with Ubuntu.

As for limits.conf - I actually installed Ubuntu Studio Controls and use that... I don't know about Jaunty but on Karmic the Ubuntu Studio Controls messes up your limits.conf: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntustudio-controls/+bug/454082 So I would definitely check it, you just never know. And maybe...
