linuxaudio.org compromised - 2018-01-29

Dear all, January 29th the linuxaudio.org was compromised. Someone managed to pull in a privilege escalation exploit, probably through a reverse shell and got root. This was discovered by the Virginia Tech IT department and they cut the server off from the network. Their policy dictates that comprom...

Re: Does anyone know a Live Sequencer software with "mark jump" or similar feature?

Seq24 can do this I think, depends a bit on what you define as a "scene". Seq24 has the possibility to either start sequences (aka loops) immediately or wait until the running sequence has stopped to load the next one (queueing).

Yes, I use http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ for all my new music. All my older songs that are registered with the Dutch copyright registration (BUMA) have a https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/ license, the commercial part is being taken care of by BUMA.

That's an option but with a future update the file will be installed again. Maybe commenting the whole file would be a better option.

Re: Quick kernel benchmark and discussion

Thanks for these tests! So the stock Ubuntu kernels are doing quite well and especially a lowlatency one is already basically all you need. I will test some more on the RPi also with the standard kernel. If the differences are as small as in your case I might as well use a standard kernel.

Re: Image-based sound synthesizer?

Sounds like a great project! You might want to look at Virtual ANS: http://www.warmplace.ru/soft/ans/ or PixiVisor from the same developer: http://warmplace.ru/soft/pixivisor/
I don't think these projects are open source though but maybe you could drop the dev a line ;)

Re: Audio to midi

You might want to try the GxTuner LV2 plugin from the Guitarix suite, it also has audio to MIDI functionality.

Re: Linux support Behringer UMC404HD?

From the manual:
Mac OS X operating system: No drivers needed, your U-Phoria interface operates class-compliant.
So it seems to be a class compliant device and should work with Linux.

Re: Roland Rubix sound cards

Behringer makes bad sounding gear that breaks quickly. That's why it's so cheap. Behringer has made a lot of crap (remember those cheap platsic guitar stomp boxes?) but they also make very sturdy, good sounding gear. I've got a BCR2000 and a BCF2000 and those are still great devices. Recently I bou...

If it's a class compliant device then it should be plug and play. I reckon this device is kind of the successor to the UA-25(EX), those were awesome so I bet these Rubix interfaces are great too.

Re: Midi2usb interfaces

That interface will probably work. I do wonder how it behaves with bigger sysex payloads, the cheaper cables tend to not work properly in that case. I've got this one for example: http://www.dx.com/p/usb-2-0-to-midi-converter-adapter-cable-178-5cm-length-110980 And that one doesn't allow me to make ...

Re: jack_capture not working in a bash script but working outside of it

Capturing stops after having captured 10000 bytes. You should rewrite the routine where you check if the latest MKV file has changed recently.
