Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
kluppe is the one I use most, but it does not have jack transport support. it might not be considered serious by some, but it is necessary for me.

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
Simple - not all software supports it.I don't really understand. What can a master sync inside an IME do that jack transport cannot?

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
It also looks like the defenition of IME is a bit subjective. I think Ardour is also an IME, but only for audio atm. Why does midi belong to the definition of an IME and OSC not, for instance? This is a good point. However by midi (sorry, bad choice of words this time) I meant being able to use a p...

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
Yeah, and wanted to add that the LMMS-JACK issue, I would of course welcome LMMS having JACK support. Since all the downsides of LMMS could've been substituted by external applications until they are fixed. Also wanted to note that I do consider the latest version of LMMS to be a very confident, ser...

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
Man, you do not understand me at all, but this may be my fault - perhaps I did not give a clear definition of an IME. So let's give one! An integrated music environment (IME) is a musical application which facilitates a full song creation cycle and does not require any software outside itself to cre...

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
Besides that, why would you want to restrict yourself to purely IME? Renoise, Ardour, Qtractor, all those apps are IMEs, but have also Jack support. No offence meant, but with all due respect, you are greatly missing my point. I am not saying anything about restricting myself to IME - in fact, I sp...

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
studio32: I will try ladish! I am eager to try it out. There is nothing bad in running something on the command line while at a live session. While I am performing and in one hand holding a flute, being there with the audience, I am not very keen at going back to my laptop and starting to type somet...

Re: M-audio Fast Track
Very, very nice piece of equipment. This is my main soundcard now and it is absolutely fabulous, works out of the box and also very mini and cute - you can take it with you at any time.

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
Hey guys! Let me comment on some points. If I understand you correctly you're far less concerned with performance during the composition stage. Is that correct or have I misunderstood you ? True. As long as the sound does not glitch, I don't care if it has like a 10ms latency or a 40ms latency. On m...

Re: JACK suddenly started giving XRUNS
I think the reason was that I used USB headset - it really made a difference when I switched to my M-Audio Fast Track. No XRUNs now.

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
Let me once more explain why JACK support in LMMS is low priority. Making music in LMMS is same as making music in an editor like FL Studio - this is mostly non-real time work. ALSA midi is enough to record things into piano roll and then post edit them. This has nothing to do with connecting a synt...

Re: JACK suddenly started giving XRUNS
Now AVLinux started to give Xruns. What I did was install Patchage, but nothing else. Weird.

Re: In what way modular approach is limiting
I think the reason they say that it is not a priority is because LMMS and IME of such type (like FL Studio, Cubase) are usually less suitable for recording things. If you want to record things, you go Pro Tools (Ardour). This is exactly what I am saying. Musicians that need IME to programm electroni...
