Re: JLSampler: A new open-source sampler for Linux
I do regular chatting in #gnu on freenode and have an interest in licenses in general. From both of these sources I can tell you that it is misleading how Linuxsampler labels its software but it is correct according to the GPLv2 (without 'or higher') text.

Re: JLSampler: A new open-source sampler for Linux
No, there are not a lot of sfz libraries. There are indeed very few, and especially very few good ones, which exclusively means commercial in the sample context. For the general music making public sfz is neglectable. And yes, Linuxsampler is out of the question anyway because it is proprietary. For...

Re: Should I compose music on linux?
All 4 question can be answered with "no". You will not be happy with the current state of orchestral sampling in Linux. Not at all.

@prokoudine
Well, this is not about the sampler but the screencasting overlay tool.
For the rest of you:
It will be GPL and crossplatform, but it will still be sold.

commercial sfz sample libraries
I am looking for commercial sfz libraries. This means intended and sold as sfz, not converted, not user- or script-generated sfz mappings. The bigger the better. More expensive, the better. Needs proprietary sfz-extensions/engine? Also fine. This is not for personal use but for Linux Audio research....

Re: Video Demo of my new tool to help creating screencast vi
Just to inform you. I thought of many useful applications and usecases and therefore features for this tool. But it is not a project without an end. A 1.0 release with subsequent bugfix and small feature additions is a finite piece of work and not a lifetime commitment (like my other software) At th...

Patreon, a patronage system to support our programmers.
As we all know open source programmers struggle with getting anything in return for their software. I would like to try out a crowd-employment route and signed up with patreon.com. Maybe you can support me as well so that I can work on my Linux Audio software. That would be fine! Follow this link fo...

Carla and all the NON tools have non-session-manager support.
You have a specialized program for hosting plugins and instruments and one to play them back, connected by JACK.
Why do you want to host your sounds as lv2 plugins directly in the sequencer?

Re: Best midi sequencer
The only problem I see here is that "beat", if you think "beats per minute"/bpm, is an undefined word. In the bpm sense (or the lower number in the time signature) this is a variable which can hold any standard note value (x*2^n) and their dotted (+ 1/2) variants. However, there ...

Re: Latency
Why don't you just run everything, Sibelius and Kontakt AND Audacity on the same system? Be it a real windows or a virtual machine one. Then copy the recorded audio tracks .wav files to your main project.

I wish that maybe instead of whining people would say WHAT they want and what is hard to use. This would enable developers to actually react and do something.

Re: Pro-Audio in WINE [sub-forum]
Even if I am against Wine I find this is an excellent idea. It would be nice for them to have a place where they can gather without having to hide the fact that they are running the software in Wine. And I see this from the other perspective: If you go into a windows or audio forum and say "Som...

Re: The Friday Interview
@Thad E Ginathom ah, how interesting! I lived in Chennai as well. But that ended in 2007. Since then I am back in Germany (I am German). I was there to take carnatic singing and music lessons over an extended period of time. Of course I visited many concerts as well, especially in the concert season...
