Re: Ubuntu 8.10: rt kernel improved?
Looks like work on a new version of the -rt kernel can be previewed at https://launchpad.net/~abogani/+archive - haven't tried yet.

Re: Ubuntu 8.10: rt kernel improved?
Is anyone aware of a Launchpad issue or something similar about this?
I've browsed around launchpad for a bit, but I can't even seem to get a list of bugs against the kernel package :S.

Re: Ubuntu Studio 8.04.1 or 8.10?
Should I advise newbies to use Ubuntu Studio 8.04.1 or 8.10? As detailed in this thread , I'm experiencing problems with MIDI performance. Though it's possible to use 8.10 with the 8.04 kernel, and that much improves MIDI performance, it introduces other problems (like my wireless network card goin...

Re: MIDI timing in a non-realtime kernel
If Mepis doesn't come with a kernel suitable for audio work, you could compile your own. A quick google yielded http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/Compiling_and_installing_a_new_kernel If i recall correctly, there's a setting under 'Processor type and features' which you can set to 1000hz to get...

Re: Ubuntu 8.10: rt kernel improved?
On the rosegarden-user list, shane richards mentioned the jitter i'm seeing might be related to swapping - i'm going to look into that. OK, swapping isn't the problem, it's also there when swap is disabled entirely. Unaffected: - gtick (a DSP metronome) Affected: - keystation --alsamidi--> zynaddsu...

IRQ settings
After reading some of http://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=279, I decided to take a look at my IRQ settings. The /proc/interrupts of my laptop looks like: CPU0 0: 3800230 IO-APIC-edge timer 1: 9415 IO-APIC-edge i8042 4: 3 IO-APIC-edge 8: 11 IO-APIC-edge rtc 9: 5 IO-APIC-fasteoi acpi 12...

onboard audio + mixer trouble
I've got a setup with a pair of (low-end) studio monitors, a desktop and occasionally a laptop. Disconnecting/reconnecting the monitors when switching between laptop and desktop is a hassle, and I might want to use both machines simultaneously, so I got a mini mixer . The laptop soundcard is your ty...

Re: what is 64bit processor?
Jep - and their 'Core Solo'/'Core 2 Solo' are the single-core variants, also available in both 32bit and 64bit (but rather uncommon, mostly used in laptops).Havoc wrote:Intel has (had?) both type. The "Core duo" is a dual core 32bit and "Core 2 duo" is dual core 64bit.

The number of cores and the word size (`number of bits') are largely unrelated.funkmuscle wrote:are dual core cpus 64bit or do they make 32 bit dual core?

Perhaps it would be useful if a moderator could split part of this discussion to a separate thread in 'tuning and configuration'?

I get 'You do not have the required permissions to read topics within this forum' for the Developers' section forum, though

Re: Updating Rosegarden
I was then able to install the main rosegarden deb file without probems and thankfully ubuntustudio-audio hadn't been removed. :D This is actually not as big a problem as it may seem. Ubuntustudio-audio is a 'metapackage' that doesn't contain anything itself, but just depends on a collection of oth...

MIDI monitor
I've got a MIDI controller that I'd like to calibrate properly.
kmidimon is nice, but the controller emits a bit too many messages to interpret them as they flash by.
Is anyone aware of a graphical midi monitor? One that can for example show me how the pitch bend value changes over time.

Re: oss2jack broken with kernel 2.6.27
my RME system does not recover gracefully. No sound is coming in or going out of my Multiface after a wake up. 2.6.27 is no exception to this behavior so I'd better stick to the more stable kernel until this is solved (will it ever be ?) My network card has been behaving suspiciously lately, but it...
