Re: DAW: Dynebolic or Ubuntu Studio with M-Audio sound device
if the Delta 44 has the same chip as the 1010 (ice1712), you need the GUI app called envy24control (it's in alsa-tools-gui or alsa-tools, don't remember). This mixer is THE mixer for the Deltas, forget about generic GUIs like kmix or gnome-mixer. Of course, if the chip is not what I mentioned, I may...

Re: Doubletracking
I don't know if it's a well-known thing or not, I never dwelt around studios or music producers (remember, I improvised myself one only a year ago ;) ) but I do use this, I like the effect of singing the same part multiple times and align all the tracks. It gives an intense feeling of ... I don't kn...

Re: how do you record your bass guitar?
SC4 mono (I suppose your bass preamp output is mono). as to the setting, it's really up to you. Compressing a bass is tough, depending on the style you play. Have you used a comp before ? in ardour, the SC4 comes with a meter display showing in realtime how much is compressed as you feed the plugin ...

Re: Hyper Low-Latency Audio with a Real-Time Kernel (video)
as far as I know, the realtime priority sched is reserved for certain process threads, e.g. running the qjackctl GUI at high prio does not make sense, but allowing the jackd audio thread RT prio makes more sense. SO it could be that you see that the overall process you launched does not exhibit the ...

Re: Hyper Low-Latency Audio with a Real-Time Kernel (video)
at least in all debian based OSes, you don't use set_rtlimits, you use the PAM security module (which the guy mentions briefly in his video) and tune /etc/security/limits.conf In my DAW, I have this setting: @audio - rtprio 99 @audio - memlock unlimited @audio - nice -19 which globally (system-wide)...

Re: Jamin tutorial by Ron Parker
OK, considering the track he wants to master, he will apply input volume boosting fast lookahead limiter to increase loudness and kill possible clipping when he pushes the volume up then he lowers the volume again because of the input at the limiter is too loud at some point then he chooses to set t...

Re: csDrummer: Record a drum session in a virtual studio
I listened to the sample given on the website. Not convinced at all I am, it sounds like a drum machine. I think if you want to advertise your stuff especially because of these specific points (humanizing, etc), it's important your samples sound like what you claim you can deliver (when I say you, i...

Re: how do you record your bass guitar?
I use a hardware compressor after the preamp. It kills the peaks when I play on the lighter strings (lots of dynamic in there). I suggest you use a software comp before recording (jack-rack) so you can apply a decent setting before the audio reaches ardour. I hope you have hardware monitoring or low...

Re: Make a ardour session a bit lighter!?
jamin has actually a bypass button, so if you press it, it will stop all effects but will keep a delay that matches the one introduced by its active effects, the reason being to give the user a "smooth" experience. When bypassed, jamin is relatively low in CPU. Ardour is also relatively lo...

some music of mine ? not yet
I have quite a few songs but I will make an announcement when I am really done. I have not thought about how I will publish the work but I'll figure out something in due time (hopefully).

Re: Make a ardour session a bit lighter!?
ah, I did not pay attention. Your "problem" is jamin. Don't use it until you have a mixed down track (simple stereo track) containing your latest finest mix of your ardour session with all the effects you want, i.e. export your session to a stereo wav file. Once you have your mixed down se...

Re: Make a ardour session a bit lighter!?
look at the ardour system requirements in ardour's website. Looks like you have more than enough (2.9 GHz, 1GB ram). It could be your memlock setting in /etc/security/limits.conf (if you have such a thing).

no offsense here :) it seems weird if you expect something different from the start ;) @studio32: you ask me something that I was thinking about doing eventually : a big tutorial describing how I use the stuff, etc. But I am not kidding when I say I don't have time, since I got this full-time job to...
