Re: Noob question re JACK

You might want to post something on the PlanetCCRMA mailing list. There have been some discussions there lately about Fedora 12 support.

Re: firewire expresscard?

There are reports on the FFADO mailing list of firewire expresscards working. I just ordered one with the TI chipset that was reported to work.

Re: Ardour basics

quick question guys, what happens if I delete the .bak file? I'm running the disk cleaner Bleachbit and it wanted to remove ardour's .bak files. Is that ok? IMHO, they're safe to remove. But my advice is worth exactly what you pay for it. Not sure what you'd gain, though. The files are puny. You'd ...

It seems like a handy tool for me if I'm in a situation where I need to capture an idea but am not in my ideal environment (at home). Perfect if I'm at work and just need to jot something down.

Re: graphics card

Thorgal, are you running a 64bit or 32bit kernel? I've been running 2.6.31 with the RT patch for a couple of weeks now (64bit laptop with Intel graphics), and I still get plenty of xruns.

Re: Hydrogen Question - Replacing instruments in a song?

Hi GarryO, i think I've found a similar approach that seem to work. The h2song file has an "<instrumentlist>" section at the beginning which is similar (but not identical) to that in the drumkit.xml file. I found that I could copy/paste/replace the instruments I wanted from another h2song file. The ...

Re: Hydrogen Question - Replacing instruments in a song?

You only have to select the instrument (i.e. the snare) from the hydrogen gui and reload other sample(s). You can do it from the 'Layers' section of the instrument, where you can see the sample(s) played at each hit-strength. Hi Yeri, I'm using the RockStock kit purchased from Analogue Drums. It's ...

Re: Hydrogen Question - Replacing instruments in a song?

Hi Gary,

I was hoping to avoid that approach. I'd like to keep the drumkit intact, but just substitute a different snare for a particular song. I guess there's no silver bullet for this type of thing...

Hydrogen Question - Replacing instruments in a song?

I posted this over on the Hydrogen forums, but figured I'd post it here to see if anyone can help: I am curious if this is possible either through the GUI or by editing the h2song file: I have a song I've finished using a particular kit, but once it's recorded along with other instruments I've decid...

Re: change in 'memlock' value of 'limits.conf' in the wiki

I wouldn't expect it to cause any issues. The Linux desktop systems I support at work are used to run some extremely memory intensive applications. All of our application vendors demand memlock (and a number of other parameters) be unlimited. AFAIK the only drawback is that it allows one user to mon...

Re: Go Lenny?

The main problems I noticed were spontaneous xruns when nothing was going on (eg, opening the file dialog from hydrogen would cause 6 or 7 xruns). I posted to the PlanetCCRMA mailing list when I first noticed it and Fernando's response is here: http://ccrma-mail.stanford.edu/pipermail/planetccrma/20...

FYI, the rt23 patch is flaky. Personally, I'd recommend rt22 with 2.6.29.5, but you might have better luck than me.
