Re: Ardour 2..8.5 released

wow, this truly sucks. Could you say why this had an incidence on dssi ?? I'm no expert on dssi plugins but google sent me to this page: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-260492.html which started me looking at the hosts file. Trial and error led me to commenting out the IPV6 line for loc...

Re: Ardour 2..8.5 released

AutoStatic, Vai and Eddie can pass, the others sound the same to me but y'all are right, we do have the freedom. now how do we make Linux the best MultiMedia(DAW) environment?? I believe it is already but we to make it the standard... Di Meola's the best, but back to Linux. I believe you can accomp...

Unfortunately a lot of people are perfectly happy not being right. A lot of Windows users seem to think that working with Linux requires you to write your own apps.

Re: Hydrogen Instrument Layers not Loading & General Setup

Each bar is a separate sound and I should be able to layer those different sounds, but it won't do it. I'll check the Hydrogen forum as you suggest. Thanks. I attached an example of how I use layers. This is for a snare. Each layer has different volumes and is triggered depending on velocity. You c...

Re: Hydrogen is awesome.

No argument here. Hydrogen is really great for creating realistic, human sounding beats. I actually have a hard time making anything that sounds like a machine.

Firewire expresscards can be purchased fairly cheaply. Ones with the TI chipset can be found for around $20 - $50.

Yes, this is encouraging. I first dabbled with LMMS a little over a year ago but couldn't dedicate much time to it because it only worked reliably with OSS on my system. It would be really awesome if it could become a regular part of my arsenal.

Re: LMMS 0.4.6 released

Unbelievable. Is it a surprise that people would like lmms to work with jack? Apparently so because this was posted to the lmms mailing list by Tobias Doerffel: Hi, Am Samstag, 26. Dezember 2009 21:39:56 schrieb Fabrizio Furnari: > lmms is a great tool but I cannot use > it without jack. Why? Our go...

Re: Ardour images. What is wrong here?

When I'm working in Ardour I don't usually have to mess with the connections from qjackctl. I usually just pick the inputs or outputs from the tracks in Ardour. You can do this from the mixer window.

Re: Bristol Softsynths

I am very impressed too. I had no idea such a thing exists. Looks very good, sounds good too, but I can't get MIDI work. Without MIDI the package is useless for any serious audio work, though. Interesting. PlanetCCRMA provides Bristol packages for Fedora that seem to work fine with midi (at least w...

Re: Ardour images. What is wrong here?

In the screen shots you posted Jack is active which is why the "Start" button is grayed out. The transport is what's stopped, but that just means that nothing is playing.

I attached an image of my qjackctl with jack running and the transport stopped. It looks just like yours.

I'd suggest getting more memory, but I don't know how much you plan on doing with this setup. It definitely won't hurt and memory is relatively cheap.

Re: Hydrogen: swap 2 sounds or 2 rhythms in pattern editor??

I asked a similar question some time ago (I just wanted to replace the snare sound in an existing song). I was able to accomplish it by editing the .h2song file. The parts you need to change are near the top of the file. I can't tell you exactly how to determine what you need to change except that i...

Re: Noob question re JACK

You should seriously consider going here: http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/ and signing up for their mailing list. It is specific to Fedora and there are a lot of discussions recently related to F12. If your problem is because of a bug then somebody can start working on a fix.
