OK. You are right. I deleted all of the fonts except for one and that one is of a different basic sound. Now, how to get the different sounds in channels?

I'm not getting anything out of channels. The instruments are showing but I can't switch. The piano is good though.

I'm not able to change the sounds. I tried selecting the new font in Setup and I tried switching in Channels but no go.

OK. I figured out how to load the fonts into Setup on Qsynth. Let's try it out and see (or hear).

Let me get this right. The font I was asked to select in Setup, I think it was a gm font, this contains a whole bank of instruments? So how do I toggle from one instrument to another using the controller +/or Qsynth?

And can I install fonts directly from an external hard drive?

Thanx for all the info. I think everything will be useful at some time in the future, but for now I want FREE and EASY. But I am going to try a few of these ideas presented. I've made great gains in just getting sound from a sequencer in Linux.

But as has been said, I don't need QJackCtl. I think I have QJackCtl. Should I just uninstall it?

I have Qsynth downloaded and opened but am not getting any sound. It does not seem to recognize my controller. I have all of the other programs suggested in this thread.

I'm now seeing a little green light blinking when I press a controller key. Something is happening.
