Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

@timpanic Running 64 buffers on 48khz mean 1.3ms of latency, or something around a distance of 40cm. Running 128 buffers on 48khz mean 2.7ms of latency, or bit more about a distance of almost one metre. Running 256 buffers on 48khz mean 5,3ms of latency, or something around a distance of under 2 me...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

:D Then my whole davinci resolve setup is in danger again I am afraid!!! I was just happy to get that working and it is still working after install rtkernel..knock on wood. Never ending story. I will live with the performance I get right now. As mentioned Ardour with different plugin choices seems t...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

Yeah, thanks for your help and I feel you but I tried most of these mods. I tried it also, for many years, always with patchy results. You think it finally "works right" yet at some point you realise it's not working as well as you hoped. I've been through this many times. It's like I sai...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

I just wanted to report a simple fact. That even with the usuable audio tweaked distros ( or doing it manual with repos ) my rme ucx just doesn´t perform as good as under windows on the same system/hardware on many machines in terms of latency with alsa/jack. For my needs. With Reaper. On the same p...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

? Is somebody there in the head?

That's what I meant. RME Drivers under windows or mac. And not in class compliant mode which was made for iPad usage.

Must be a conspiracy theory from rme.

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

Merlyn. You're joking right? And who are you? Can I see your reputation? Use your pipewire avlinux and drum gizmo and be happy if this works for you. I have to work actually as an engineer and mix big shows and records and don't have time for this shit to proof to some stranger the fact that linux h...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

Yeah, thanks for your help and I feel you but I tried most of these mods. But after all you want to get your music done and not tweak your system all the time for a "maybe" and switch irqs like under windows 15 years ago just to have a decent daw performance when a working low latency syst...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

I used reaper stock plugins. My ssl ilok suite does not work anyway so this is the only way. We are in the same boat regarding just recording multitracks inside ardour. We had ardour, jack and rme pci back in 2006. Pipewire and stuff doesn't bring me one inch further for real time usage. With davinc...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

Have tried to record several tracks at once? It seems that with increasing track number Reaper stresses out more and more and faster than with ASIO. I tried avlinux a lot. To be honest, I wanted to like it but I never did and always end up to throw it out :). A lot of ugly design decisions made and ...

Re: SE25 Nektar Midi Keyboard

So true. Twenty years ago I worked for a music store and all the brands were separate companies. Midas was a big name, look what console Pink Floyd used on their the wall tour etc. But somehow the industry moved away more and more from heavy metall console studios to one man maudio 2 channel plus mi...

Re: xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

Hi, Yes in class compliant mode. Otherwise it won't be recognised by the os. Also tried all usb ports but it didn't change anything. I also have a RME 9632 PCI in a different i7 16gb antix linux machine here. It works better as the usb unit but again not so good as in windows. I tried a reaper proje...

xruns latency on MX Linux with RME Fireface UCX

Hi folks, I just wanted to know what I can expect from a linux system in terms of latency these days. I have a RME Fireface UCX on a Lenovo p700 workstation and use it in a pro studio setuo with ADAT 16 channels. Under Windows it performs like a charme. I can play drums with 128 buffer through a ful...
