Rename ajbridge devices in raysession?
Hi, still trying to wrap my head around ALSA and JACK and all the fun that entails. I have a few USB audio adapters that I have bridged into JACK with ajbridge a2j and j2a. They show up in raysession with generic names, like "zita-j2a-01" and similar. Not very helpful. I see that in QJackC...

Re: Why does starting JACK as systemd also load Pulseaudio?
Hey, thank you for taking a look at this! [Unit] Description=JACK 2 After=sound.target BindsTo=sound.target Requires=dbus.socket [Service] Type=dbus BusName=org.jackaudio.Controller ExecStartPre=/bin/sleep 10 ExecStart=/usr/bin/jack_control start ExecStop=/usr/bin/jack_control stop ExecStopPost=/usr...

Why does starting JACK as systemd also load Pulseaudio?
Ubuntu Studio 22.04 I notice that if I use QJackCtl to start JACK, my patchbays (raysession, QJackCtl's Graph) show the normal ALSA System Capture and Playback devices. But if I use systemd to start JACK then two pulseaudio entries appear, seemingly the same devices that ALSA was bringing in when QJ...

Re: Need USB audio interface
UPDATE: This is an older model of the 18i8 with only two line-level output jacks, or one stereo pair. My goal is an audio adapter with four line-level balanced outs. Even so, this device has four mic and four line-level inputs so I thought to see whether ALSA detects all the Capture inputs, because ...

Re: Need USB audio interface
Yep, a 2014 18i8 with only one stereo pair (labeled 1 and 2) of 1/4' output jacks. I'm looking at it. The photos online of the current model show four output jacks (2 stereo pair). They must have added the second pair after I bought this one.

Re: Need USB audio interface
You'll not be surprised to learn that in the US, over-the-air (terrestrial, radio) broadcast loudness is not regulated. As long as you don't exceed 100% modulation of the transmitter, you are free to make it as aggressively loud-sounding as you wish. So, that's one Stereo Tool doing that processing....

Re: Need USB audio interface
Hi, thank you. This is not primarily a web streaming setup. This is for FM radio broadcasting -- KPOV, a community radio station in Bend, Oregon, USA. One dac is to provide aggressively-processed analog audio for the "air chain" -- the signal that goes to the transmitter for broadcast; the...

Re: Need USB audio interface
Hey, thanks guys for the info. "99% of all usb audio interfaces will work with linux. Maybe you should do a lil research yourself at the alsa web page for example." A reasonable suggestion! But it doesn't seem to be very well maintained, and doesn't address some of my questions. Like, bala...

Re: Need USB audio interface
Thank you. I don't get the impression from their product pages that the devices are class-compliant and can be used under Linux/JACK without drivers, and they don't show any for Linux. Unclear whether the device will expose all its inputs and outputs to Linux.

Re: Need USB audio interface
Thank you. Yes, I have used Focusrite in the past, and they seem to make a solid product. The Scarlett 4i4 looks like a candidate, but Focusrite aren't telling me whether the device needs special drivers, or whether it will "just work" under Linux and expose all four outputs to my JACK pat...

Need USB audio interface
I'm new here. I'm the studio technician for a community radio station in Bend, Oregon, USA. I've been asked to set up our broadcast audio processing, which consists of two instances of Stereo Tool running on the same computer. One instance will provide aggressive processing for the FM broadcast, the...

Re: Patchance (JACK Patchbay) first pre-release
Hi, I just put Patchance on a new install of Ubuntu Studio 22.04 and it didn't install. Got an Error 1. I see $ sudo make install install -d /usr/local/bin/ install -d /usr/local/share/ install -d /usr/local/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/ install -d /usr/local/share/icons/hicolor/24x24/apps/ instal...
