Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 2/3 Control Panel GUI
Is there some sort of ELI5 what are the Hardware, PCM and Mixer I/Os and how they interact? I think I understand the Hardware part, but what are these other two for?

My new set of floor units - Boss RC-600, Boss VE-500 and Line 6 HX Stomp XL
Just wanted to share some knowledge on my new set of floor units. Boss RC-600 Loop Station - creme de la creme of looper boards at the moment. When plugged in immediately recognized as an audio interface. If you change USB setting on the unit to "Storage" - it then shows up as a flash driv...

Re: Boss RC-600 Loop Station
So, I'm gonna answer my own question for those who come looking in the future. I've received the unit today and everything works, this is great - looks like it's USB class compliant. By default when plugged in, RC-600 is recognized as an audio interface. When you change the mode in the unit's settin...

Re: Using DAW for real time live performance feasible?
With these hw specs you should be fine, so main concern I think can be wine stuff. You need to be prepared, it will crash at the worst time. Set up a simple button in bitwig which restarts plugins and map that to some midi button or prepare some other strategies for handling that Yep, all things co...

Re: Using DAW for real time live performance feasible?
Well, Bitwig can sandbox each plugin separately, so if it crashes it shouldn't affect the rest, I think. I don't remember the DAW itself crashing though, although I guess in theory it's still possible.

Re: Using DAW for real time live performance feasible?
If the bridged plugin crash during performance, then the latency would be the least problem Indeed that could be an issue. Although I've been playing my electric guitar with these bridged plugins for quite a while and I don't remember having a crash even once. Of course, in real scenario the load i...

Using DAW for real time live performance feasible?
I'm playing with the idea of using my DAW (Bitwig with JACK) for effects during live performance, but I'm not sure how big of a problem latency would be. I have a 24 channel mixer on order, Soundcraft Ui24R that would be serving as an audio interface and mixer. My laptop is pretty beefy - Intel 10th...

Boss RC-600 Loop Station
Anybody know if this one shows up when connected with USB? All I need is the ability to load some backing tracks in. I understand that some (most?) previous products in this line come up as USB storage, which would be good enough for me.

Great stuff. By the way, is there a way to enable/disable direct monitoring?

Re: New Laptop Advice April 2022
@foodforester1: I wouldn't worry about the specs of your new computer. In my experience the hardest part is actually finding a laptop that supports Linux in every way. Well, an affordable laptop that is. That's just it. If you want a Linux compatible laptop you need to scrape together more cash and...

Re: Anyone using Zoom LiveTrak L-8?
Everybody thanks for the warning about the L8 not working as an audio device without batteries. This is not 100x100 correct !!! The L8 needs power NOT COMING from the USB to work as an audio device, in any LINUX environment, until ZOOMCORP provides a driver, and I believe they are not going to do s...

Re: New Laptop Advice April 2022
Out of the mainstream brands, only Dell ships laptops with Linux (Ubuntu) installed and with official support. Even then some minor hardware features may not work, such as power button fingerprint in my case, but not a big deal. Dell's Precision line is about as good as it gets for Linux, unfortunat...

Re: Kemper VS Helix
Yeah, I run them with Wine and Yabridge just fine. Only annoying problem is that Helix Native doesn't have HiDPI support, so font is microscopic on my 4K screen, but still somewhat readable. Both Amplitube and Neural DSP have good UI scaling though. Thanks for the reply! I'd tried to run Helix Nati...

Re: Recording output from Bitwig with ffmpeg and JACK
Yes, my Bigwig uses JACK and have Qjackctl. But how exactly does ffmpeg create a client and how to route there? I now realized that I used "jack_out.monitor", because that's how I found it in Given you are already using the PulseAudio Jack bridge, it's better to use ffmpeg with a Pulse so...

Re: Recording output from Bitwig with ffmpeg and JACK
That's the thing - I'm not sure. I'm not sure how to route Bitwig's output to ffmpeg even with jack. Do I need to create some sort of loopback or something? I don't know well how Bitwig works, assuming it's using JACK it should show as a JACK client in the graph. If you are using something like Qja...
