Re: Airwindows Discussion

I was just playing with these yesterday as well. Had not thought of Airwindows in a long time.

I liked one that I think is fairly new called Dirt.

I did have some trouble with xruns when trying to string some of these together though.

Re: Do any serious music enthusiasts use Linux?

Yes, the whole thread is kind of insulting. I hope it doesn't discourage new users from asking any questions.

Re: AV Linux MX-21 Edition Released!

I agree it looks like an excellent site, however I don't think it is built to accept user submissions directly in the same manner as a wiki. Adding to it or editing it would require access and real coding skills.

Edit: Hopefully the author will chime in.

I think some thing that could be helpful with plugins going forwad is encouraging people to contribute to a wiki just to maintain a list of available plugins with up to date links to web pages or git sources etc. Like this? - https://linuxmusic.rocks/ Like that however the problem with sites like t...

Re: Do any serious music enthusiasts use Linux?

I know guys who are still 100% analogue and record on tape. It's a creative process and what works for one person might not for another person.

I assume wiki.linuxaudio.o...

Re: Do any serious music enthusiasts use Linux?

The big production companies that use Linux would write their own software in house.

Re: OS Independent Firmware/Patch management

When you already have to support more than one OS any way I don't understand why they don't just start out with a cross platform solution.

As for Behringer, I'm a little surprised they didn't come right out with a Linux release for their synths. I expect it would be trivial to compile a Linux port.

I guess what I get from all that is that Windows is easier because you have already put years into learning it.

Re: OS Independent Firmware/Patch management

There was some one from Behringer hanging out on FB today on a post about Behringer making music available to the poor or some such thing. I bought this issue up. They said their code is C and C+, so I said then it should be very simple for their developer to compile a Linux port. They didn't disagr...

Re: OS Independent Firmware/Patch management

Devices should be able to update themselves.

In the mean time, a lot of these type of programs will run perfectly in wine.

Re: How can a newb like myself get my midi piano working with Linux?

The things you need to do to get sounds coming out are going to be pretty much the same regardless of operating system. I don't see how it could be any easier in windows. Windows is becoming increasingly difficult to get going. Even though it comes preinstalled I can install a complete Linux system ...

I was also going to mention Pianoteq as well as Decent Sampler. https://www.decentsamples.com/product/decent-sampler-plugin/ I use Linux Mint as well. While it is not ideally configure for live music production it can be set up if you follow the the https://wiki.linuxaudio.org/wiki/system_configurat...
