Re: occasional CPU overload

Hi there,

about one year since my last post in this thread. I don't know why, but the issue did not occur again. Respectively, I think this thread should be closed. Once again, thank you for your very helpful posts!

CPU load with Purr-Data and GEM

Hi there, I started dealing with GEM and implemented a very simple patch that simply plays back a video. When I run this patch with pd-gem the playback is all good. But with purr-data the playback stutters since the CPU load is too high. Please find attached screenshots of the patch and atop while r...

Re: occasional CPU overload

Hi novalix, Thank you very much for your posts. They were really helpful, although I haven't solved this issue yet. I completely agree to your last post; I had similar thoughts in my mind. My audio setup is started by a script. So, I can observe error messages from Ardour easily. And there is still ...

Re: occasional CPU overload

I downloaded memtest from memtest86.com and executed "MemTest86 Free" via USB stick boot. It took about two and a half hours and passed successfully without any errors. And this is the version of ibus: xaverius@XPS13:~$ apt-cache policy ibus ibus: Installed: 1.5.26-4 Candidate: 1.5.26-4 Ve...

Re: occasional CPU overload

The memory test took about half an hour (there was no memtest entry in the Grub menu) and the version of Ardour is "6.9.0 ds0".

Re: occasional CPU overload

Thanks for your posts so far! I executed a detailed on-board memory test in the BIOS and it passed successfully. And yes, the memory consumption is conspicuous in the distorted case. I saw that it is possible to have a closer look at what is going on in the memory with "atop -m". So, I'm w...

occasional CPU overload

Hi there, from time to time the audio output is heavily distorted when I start my music audio setup, which is mainly based on a Dell XPS13 with Ubuntu Studio 22.04, Pure Data, Ardour and a Fireface 802 USB audio interface via Jack. If this issue occurs, there is nothing I can do except for waiting a...

Re: cannot get rid of XRuns

Unfortunately, Ubuntu Studio with KDE Plasma seems to be the only audio distribution that supports my 4K touchscreen. AVLinux is based on XFCE and KXStudio on KDE4. Loki Harfagr Regarding the buffer size: I had to increase the buffer size to 3 to lower the xrun-free latency to 4 ms. And I just said ...

Re: cannot get rid of XRuns

Setting the buffer size to 3 made it much better, thanks for that advice. I could get it running with 96000/128/3 with no VST involved, which causes a latency of 4 ms. But with my Macbook Pro 13" from 2012 (!) I get a latency of 2.7 ms at 96000 out-of-the-box with the same audio hardware. So, I...

Re: cannot get rid of XRuns

Thanks for your post! Yes, it's USB and I'll try 3 buffers today evening. So far, I have two questions: How ist e.g. 96000/256/3 related to "49 multiples"? A typo? Could you provide a link or detailed instructions about how to find out if e.g. network syncs or energy saving stuff are causi...

cannot get rid of XRuns

Hi there, I'm switching to Linux and trying to get my music setup running: - Ubuntu Studio 20.10 - Bitwig 3.2.8 with Jack2 - RME Fireface 802 (class-compliant mode) - Laptop Dell XPS 13 with 4x i7-1165G @ 2,8 GHz and 16 GB RAM There are some few VST plugins that I'd like to keep and I installed wine...
