Re: JACK is Hannibal Lector with an ear fetish

I use JACK and it enables me to do several things not possible with ALSA, or Windows for that matter. It is a bit of a mindfuck to learn it initially and I'd never recommend it to someone starting out. But it's certainly not mandatory to use it.

Re: Willie Mack - "Have You Ever Loved a Woman"

Really great work, both playing and mixing. This is electric blues all the way. I was a bit tentative about the bass panning after the previous comment but it's not as distracting as I imagined it could be and places the listener up close to the stage for a very immediate sense of being there. That ...

Re: AVLinux-MXE Getting Started

lordbullingdon As OP decided to use this thread as an outlet for venting their refusal to read the manual and has since left the building, it may have been better to start a new thread. To answer your question, in Debian stable it's almost always safe to install updates, and MX, being based on Debi...

Re: Linux Audio Workstation Build

I'm glad your system is working well. It is quite a long time ago that Linus got annoyed with Nvidia. It seems things have changed for the better. I don't think things are better with Nvidia, just not much worse. It was always possible to use Nvidia reasonably well, just the more high-end cards wor...

Ouch! You should not have given me a "thump". Now I'll have to tell my friends that my black eye was caused by hitting my face on a doorknob. P.S. Off-topic to irritate raboof. It's my life's work. Your life's work is hitting your face on doorknobs? I only vaguely have followed ...

Re: Linux Audio Workstation Build

...Before the global shortage of graphics cards I saw cards described as 'Zero dB' meaning the fans stop when there is a low graphics load. That seems suitable for my use -- quiet when working on audio, powerful enough for video. I was thinking something like an RX580. AMD of course because ... wel...

Re: How do you learn to use new programs?

The Mixbus manual is great if you use Mixbus. Although even with over 500 pages, there's occasionally something I can't find or just isn't documented. Time to hit the Mixbus forums then. And being based on Ardour, there's also cases where a solution to something can be found there which isn't in the...

Hi LM's! Just posting the premiere release of AV Linux MX Edition! http://www.bandshed.net/2020/11/25/av-linux-mx-edition-is-here/ Thanks a lot Greg, Err, it's Glen  If I was to re-spin-trim your base to a slimmer Openboxed one instead, would you recommend simply remastering yours or is there...

Re: Linux Audio Workstation Build

What kind of noise comes from a graphics card? I thought they had no moving parts. Most graphics cards have fans, some of the higher end ones have three which can become hella noisy when they work hard. That said, Linux audio workstations are unlikely to tax a graphics card so a very modest fanless...

This site has a lot of headphone tests and frequency response results - https://www.rtings.com/headphones/tests/sound-quality/sound-profile Obviously not Sonarworks but it has helped me more closely match my extremely different ATH-M50x and my Austrian Audio HiX-55, using a system wide parametric eq...

Re: Harrison AVA plugins respond "very" laggy when changing parameters via mouse

There's a dedicated AVA plugins subforum at Mixbus forums. You would be more likely to get help there.
https://forum.harrisonconsoles.com/

I vaguely recall AVA plugins can be picky about video drivers and OpenGL settings.
