Re: How much RT optimization is still needed?
to clarify - using xhci puts all 9 USB 3 IRQs at the top! This would appear to be a drawback If you get less Xruns it doesn't seem to be a drawback. Are your other USB devices on 'ehci'? I use all my USB ports, so I also have stuff on 'ehci' but I don't need to prioritise that as my 204HD is in a U...

Re: Stereo widening
MVerb is on vocals, piano, claps, pandeiros and even that crazy electronic bridge. that ambience synth, which has no reverb aplied at all, asked for it. there is Harrison GVerb on other stuff like the snare and guitar I found a 64bit version - "Mverb 2020" at SocaLabs. Seems quite nice. I...

Re: How much RT optimization is still needed?
I think I stopped using swap when I went from 2 to 4 GB RAM around 11 years ago! I currently have 16. Definitely use it as an insurance policy though if you feel the need. No harm in that at all

Re: Stereo widening
Pivot (EQ), LSP has mid/side processors btw I can't get my head around some of those LSP plugins! They seem quite complicated to me. I suppose once you learn how they work then it's no longer an issue. I don't think widening should be overused. I used it on this training mix, because those ambience...

Re: How much RT optimization is still needed?
What is your rtirq.conf ? # IRQ thread service names # (space separated list, from higher to lower priority). #RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="snd usb i8042 snd_hda_intel:card1" RTIRQ_NAME_LIST="i801 xhci" # Highest priority. RTIRQ_PRIO_HIGH=90 # Priority decrease step. RTIRQ_PRIO_DECR=5 # Low...

Re: How much RT optimization is still needed?
rtirq -- not everyone seems to get a benefit from this. I have a PCI card and I do. I'm less convinced rtirq is useful for USB audio, as rtirq raises the priority of all USB devices -- that could mean e.g. the mouse competes with the soundcard. I've just played with this again to be sure and, on my...

Re: How much RT optimization is still needed?
There is one AUR package - 'tuned-git' I use, which when using its 'latency-performance' profile gives a noticeable boost to cutting DSP load. I tried this and it didn't affect my DSP load. I'm not suggesting there is anything wrong with tuned -- I think I had already done everything that tuned doe...

Very good! I thought "this is really atmospheric and relaxing". Then it went all manic and then back to relaxing - phew! I think that counts as "epic"
I also got a "spaghetti western" vibe at one point but that's probably just me

Re: How much RT optimization is still needed?
I think this would be really useful and something we can point new (and old!) users at. Unfortunately it requires technically proficient people who really understand how this stuff works. Personally, I've just cobbled together what I think is relevant, mainly from the Arch Wiki, such as Realtime Pro...

Re: Stereo widening
I suspect getting the balance right is very hard, and would need to be redone for every other source and song; and then suddenly it got too wide, and you have to rebalnce everything again. Ozone probably developed an algorythm which does that automaticly That's the beauty of a plugin like that for ...

Re: Moderation on linuxmusicians.com?
I don't see how anyone can moderate "proactively". This implies knowing what's going to be written in advance! Admittedly I don't read this forum extensively but I've yet to read anything I think should have been removed (I didn't see the deleted thread). I think the forum is moderated wel...

Maybe you're interested in this, too: http://marzen.de/Holger/stereo_width/ Interesting, thanks. I'm spending more time on chasing this "enhancement" to the master than actually working on the music! I do enjoy all the fiddling about though :D So I put my new Ozone Elements into the test:...

I think that's fixed now, turns out that the server interpreted links without a protocol header (https://) as relative , so clyp.it/[..] became linuxmusicians.com/clyp.it[..] . Thanx a million for telling me, and for showing interest in the first place, so as a bonus, here some old stuff I never pu...
