Re: Skjaldmær

Thanks to a national holiday here in Italy, I decided to kill some time creating a video for this song. I had already collected some material in the past few months, in particular a series of videos freely available on Videezy of a beautiful model dressed in Viking garment that I think fit the mood ...

Re: Forever Alone (all FOSS, shared Ardour project)

I do wish people wouldn't use youtube for audio. Or at least keep it only as video of a recording also available elsewhere. I avoid anything connected with google as much as possible - the only thing worse is facebook  I agree, but I do this also (put things on YT). What is the best alternativ...

Re: Second and first

I literally just listened to "Music for a new world" before jumping on this  I can definitely hear the improvements in the mix, and most importantly, this track has cool guitars too! I like that, as you said, it's indeed a mix of different things: that's what actually "progressive" means to...

Re: Music for a new world (instrumental progressive rock)

Wow, this was great! One of the things I'm working on at the moment is indeed a 20ish minutes long progrock/rock opera piece, so I can definitely appreciate the effort that must have been done in this track: writing 5m track is one thing, writing something that is 5 times as much and keep it interes...

Re: Been a while...

Very atmospheric, I liked it! And I don't know what you're feeling embarassed for: most of the MIDI talk you made I understood very little about, so I actually think you did a pretty good job

Re: Essay

Not sure if it was the intention, but I like the idea of the piano "ostinato" part as time flowing away, which would fit the theme nicely. I agree on the suggestions to work on it within a DAW, just to give each instrument more room, be it via panning, equalization, or more: there's a lot of orchest...

Re: All

Ah, something out of the 4/4 norm. It's real fun to listen to. I enjoyed that composition a lot. It's effortless happiness, always pushed - or skipped - by the 5/4 (or 10/8) rhythm and all held together by the way the instruments and vocals interact. Thanks for sharing and spreading a proggy attitu...

Re: Forever Alone (all FOSS, shared Ardour project)

Not really my genre, but I liked the 60s vibe of the song! My only note would be on drums, that sound maybe a bit too synthetic? Really cool video too! I was going to ask how you did it, and then saw your mention of Kdenlive: you really got something interesting out of it! Only one note: as an open ...

Re: Man with a Clan

This track sounds great, really fun! I'm ready to paint myself blue and don the tartan (I've got a good chunk of scotch somewhere in my british mutt DNA). That's the spirit! :D Don't feel bad about compositing the tracks, it's pretty standard practice, especially in the day of the DAW. Even in the ...

Re: Man with a Clan

Wow, very impressive! This is a great track, and I've added it to my Soundcloud playlist. 8) I agree the drums could be varied a bit more, and I might even bring the rhythm guitars up a bit relative to the drums, but I think it's a great song. Thanks for your kind words and the feedback! For drums,...

Re: Jotunheim - Playing live to backing tracks.

@ Rainmak3r The guitar is called a Penner. In 1983 I took some guitar lessons off of a fellow in my town. He had a luthier shop and was making a couple different body shapes by hand. There were not too many made as I think he needed to focus more on his carpentry business. I think less than 20 of t...

Re: Endless (melodic synth jam)

... My only note would be that it doesn't build up much: the progression seems to suggest something that will get louder over time, ... It does. I have used this or a similar progression before and it did include the crescendo and a build-up in instrumentation, not to mention continuing the progres...

Re: Lament

Truly gorgeous! Violas are among my favourite instruments in the orchestra, and your daughter played the part beautifully. I also had the vibe of a 70s band interlude: great work!

Re: Endless (melodic synth jam)

This is indeed quite cinematic! The chord progression evokes images of the emotional ending of an 80s movie: I've used this reference before, but a good example is the finale of Black Rain. My only note would be that it doesn't build up much: the progression seems to suggest something that will get ...

Thanks, this is really appreciated!
