Re: flosstudio - CC0-licensed database for FLOSS music-making programs

First of all, thanks bmarkham and SpotlightKid ! I just submitted an entry - where do these submission end up? What if I want to make a correction or addition? Not that I need to right now, just asking in case I do. I suppose you submitted jack_mixer. It ended up on our web server for manual review,...

flosstudio - CC0-licensed database for FLOSS music-making programs

In the last few months baj , Kott and myself have worked on flosstudio , a YAML-based freely licensed database for libre music-making programs. As you might know, there have been many attempts to build such a database over the years but many of them are just plain lists, have been discontinued or ar...

Re: Started creating music again - My most recent tracks

As Bill Frisell once said, " In so many ways, it feels the same now when I play as the very first time I picked up the instrument. There's always this sound out there that's just a little bit beyond my reach and I'm trying to get there and that just sort of keeps me going." Thanks for sharing this ...

Re: Started creating music again - My most recent tracks

Glad you enjoyed the bassline in "We Almost Knew" There is a band called Kruangbin that I enjoy a lot and their bass player, Laura Lee, has that tasteful smooth sound and good pocket. That was what I was going for - but I also love classic funk and Bootsy, of course! I know them very well, if you s...

Very nice. I guess all Yoshimi means the drums are synthesized; are those shipped as presets yet? :D

Re: Promises

Another piece which can be appreciated by estimators of krautrock but you surprised me with the more modern industrial rock guitars :D

I liked very much the click sounds. Are they (very) high-passed e-piano-like sounds?

Re: Started creating music again - My most recent tracks

I agree with the King Crimson comparison. In general, I hear some 60s psychedelic rock influences as well in the first track. Dig the groovy Bootsy-style bassline on the second track a lot. More than Pink Floyd, I would compare it to bands like Funkadelic. Care to share more info with us about your ...

Re: The Wind and the Lake (classical / symphonic poem)

Sadly I am not an expert of the genre, although I've encountered it before; shame on me for focusing on rock music for so long!

Still, I really appreciate it and above all the fact that you are trying your hand at composition, it's very a hard hybrid of art and science folks!

Re: Leaving, To Go To High School

Your daughter has a good natural vibrato and I think she might have a talent for opera singing.

Above all, I think the choice of not using a metronome really paid off! That kind of stuff should have no place outside of music trying to be mechanical on purpose.
