Recent albums by classic artists (short reviews)

Hello everybody. In the last year, I started questioning myself: why do I consider myself a fan of certain artists but then ignore their new releases, only focusing on the "classic" era? It's fair to dislike the new stuff but only if you actually listen to it, otherwise it's prejudice. So ...

Re: Dreams of Seagulls - Summer on the Moon [electronic pop]

Hey Staffan, I was thinking about mailing you just yesterday...I think I felt that it was time for a new release and I'm glad it was :D I love the evolution of DoS' sound, it was so consistent over time and the tracks sound more solid and distinctive than ever. I also like the cover art by Kajsa. Th...

Re: Rest In Peace (sad ballad)

What a good composition! And arrangement. Nice lead sound. Nice organ. The bass and drums are well programmed. Well, I'll stop singling out the various parts because I think it's overall a great piece! The mixing is top-notch, I would get lost trying to balance all those voices properly, especially ...

Very nice! Not my kind of music but I really appreciate how you created a mood. You are a very good music-storyteller, no lyrics needed.

Re: LMMS Lv2 calf plugins

LMMS 1.3.0alpha has indeed already implemented LV2 support, but it's not finished yet. LV2 instruments will show up in instruments, right below LMMS' own plugins like Freeboy, Kicker etc. in the "LV2" section. LV2 effects (including CALF plugins) will show up but there isn't a path to conf...

Re: Best FM synth?

I know SurgeXT is used for FM synth. If you want to do more complex stuff, perhaps it's best to use PureData so you have fine-grained control of everything.

Re: Help MusE - the identity thread

If it's already in use by other audio software, it defeats the purpose though. Regardless of the slanting of the name. The other software is a plugin in another category and I don't think it's hugely popular. Also, that's musEQ actually. Some spins on that concept: - mu-seq (with the dash) - mu.seq...

Re: Help MusE - the identity thread

That aside, I like MusE Sequencer as is. By reading this, I had an idea...MuSeq. It's unique enough (there is an EQ which is called museq but it's a different spelling, that's more like musEQ). It can be read as "music". It's a portmanteau of "muse" and "seq(uencer)". ...

Re: LEGO FRIENDSHIP STILL EXISTS

This restores some of my faith in the innocence of WORDINESS. For example, I was temporarily dismayed by some otherwise playful hecklers at a completely different online website who temporarily devolved into insulting me playfully by commenting harshly about how I was doling out a lot of informatio...

Re: LEGO FRIENDSHIP STILL EXISTS

Not sure if tongue-in-cheek or not but I agree that a professional pop musician probably knows better about pitch correction than most people out there, and that can influence her performance.

Re: Are there any big artists that use FOSS software?

The concept and possibility of being 'big' misses most of the worlds musicians. Assuming those pondering the question even arrive at some consensus regarding the definition of 'big'. Congrats on the million, it wasn't an accident or blind luck that achieved that! Cheers Well, "big" was ve...

Re: Greetings from France :) !

Welcome! Very welcome, actually (as a prog fan) :D I see you are on Prog Archives: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=9426 which of those tracks/albums were done in Ardour? Also, which LV2 plugins did you use? This is important for posterity, as I am trying to document professional uses of Ar...
