[Proposal] LV2 for VST2 developers guide

Recently I've been around asking developers to move away from VST2, because it's proprietary, discontinued and redistributing its SDK gets projects DMCA'ed (rightly so, the problem was using proprietary code in the first place). Initially I promoted VST3 because it's released under the GPLv3, howeve...

Re: Software and tools to better understand and appreciate music?

Hello, suppose you have discovered a new musical piece, and it turns out you like it. I am looking for software that can help to answer the question: What makes this music good? Besides pure listening (learning to analyze it by ear or just brute force listening to it many times) what software do yo...

For example, JUCE also has it's own implementation of VST headers.
Got it, thanks!

Re: LSP Project

Hey sadko4u, first thanks for these awesome plugins. I am a hobbyist programmer and I know a bit about LV2 development, but zero about VST development. I've noticed that LSP does not require downloading the proprietary VST2 SDK by Steinberg like most libre VST plugins I know, and all the VST-related...

Re: Free/open source VST3 hosts

vst3 is not evil or anything like that, but it is also really not needed. please dont try to make it a thing, LV2 is way more than what we need. we should push for better formats please, not corporate old crap. thanks Well, I frankly don't have anything against corporate code as long as it's releas...

Re: Free/open source VST3 hosts

VST3 might be GPL (and GPLv3 at that, not GPLv2+ as a few projects are), but it is nonetheless a format driven by a market with the need to sell stuff as fast as possible. It is not a community project, a company dictates what is on it, which features get worked on and what gets priority. And being...

Free/open source VST3 hosts

Hello, how many libre and reliable VST3 hosts are out there? I only know about Carla , and it doesn't seem that any of the major free DAWS (Ardour, LMMS, MusE, Qtractor) support it, while some of them do support VST2. VST3 is GPLv3 and VST2 is deprecated, it'd be a huge step up for GNU/Linux if VST3...

Re: Galeb checks in

Hello everyone! I've created an account on here because I want to start composing electronic music but don't know where to start  my objective for now is to create some simple music themes for the background soundtrack of a retro styled shoot'em up game, like Tyrian for those who remember. So,...

Re: simple software for digital piano recording

I've tried it, and it doesn't work properly... to open it, I need a midi file, well I have one but I cannot play anything, it doesn't do anything with my piano (and it is well connected because VMPK is working). I doubt I'll get it up and running. Their website is dormant and I use this site for do...

You can use Linthesia which derives from Synthesia itself, it's not a clone. :D

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?

Ok, I'm back. I guess I'll get this thing started. To briefly summarize: Use LMMS if you want to make electronica Use Qtractor if you want a good midi sequencer that also happens to support audio tracks. Use Ardour if you want good multi-track audio recording/mixing that also happens to support mid...

I am not getting notifications to my original posts, is the site designed to do that? It would be great to see notifications that responses in my threads would take place. Thank you! +1 for this much needed feature. It doesn't make sense to receive notifications for quotes and not replies to one's ...

Re: DRM-free music streaming - is it possible?

I am bumping my own thread to ask for information - do you know any music streaming services that can be used via a web browser and don't require DRM except Jamendo?

Right now Youtube seems the only one, but the royalty payments are abysmally low.
