Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

I saw in another thread you were thinking about replacing your CMOS battery. If you take the battery out that will reset the BIOS to its defaults, and I think that would fix this. You had a higher value using free earlier when you first put in the two extra sticks. When you take the battery out, wai...

Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

That's strange. lshw recognises the ram but free doesn't. Make sure all the sticks are clicked in their slots, then boot again.

Looks like you're better without that stick.

Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

That's showing less ram. What is hardinfo or a command line tool saying about memory now?

Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

Don't want to mess with the BIOS if it ain't necessary. You could possibly find out what speed your memory is running at with Hardinfo. If it's 800MHz then putting a 533MHz stick in will slow the memory bus down. If it's 533 then the stick will be fine. I'm not sure that going from 800 to 533 would...

Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

If it fits it's safe. The risk I referred to in a previous post was the risk of wasting money, not damage to the hardware. :) This is a 533 MHz stick. Dealing with the speed of the memory bus can involve going into the BIOS, which could be a bit complicated for you at the moment. You may see the mem...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, issues with JACK setup under Ubuntu

I would try switching the Electribe on, then booting the computer. Your before and after debug outputs show that switching the Electribe on stops jackdbus.

Re: make stereo from 2 cheap USB sound cards each with mono in

I didn't think I had a USB soundcard to try this. I did. lol. I've got a small midi keyboard, an Alesis Photon X25, which I noticed has audio in. It works, but sadly I wouldn't consider it usable. At a 64 JACK buffer it's a stream of Xruns. This worked without 150Hz: alsa_in -j Photon -d hw:2 -p 512...

Re: make stereo from 2 cheap USB sound cards each with mono in

The date on the bottom of the man page is January 2019, so alsa_in is probably still active. It might be possible to get it working using information from -v and -i , or on irc. -i Instrumentation. This logs the 4 important parameters of the samplerate control algorithm every 1ms. You can pipe this ...

Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

Good job! That should run a lot better.

Code: Select all

Swap: 2086908 0 2086908
That's what you want -- no swap space used.

Re: Max size soundfonts in LMMS?

OK. The specifications are here . It can take 8GB ram. You want 240 pin 800MHz Non-ECC Un-buffered DDR2 ram. This board is 64 bit, so you could think about going to a 64 bit operating system. As Lyberta said with PAE you could use all 8GB with a 32 bit OS, so you don't have to. I would think you wan...

Re: make stereo from 2 cheap USB sound cards each with mono in

I had a look at

Code: Select all

man alsa_in
There are a lot of options, and -r is unnecessary. 'selected sample format 32 bit' seems a bit weird as the hardware won't be able to sample at 32 bits. That could be the internal resolution of course.

Re: Ardour crash?

i did thought the problem was my ulimit memory resctriction I noticed JACK couldn't lock memory on my Arch system no matter what I had set in limits.conf or /etc/security/limits.d//99-realtime-privileges.conf. You can see if this is happening by ticking 'verbose' in Cadence or Qjackctl and looking ...

Re: Midi data capture application

You could do this from the command line with aseqdump. You have to stop JACK first, then use aseqdump -l to find the number of the port, then aseqdump -p x:y with the numbers you got from -l. It's in the alsa-utils package so you may have to install that.
