Re: [Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

If you had read what I posted I can't remove Pipewire as it is a dependency of Plasma Desktop.

So here is a solution to have Pipewire installed without it doing it anything. Eating your cake and having it.

Re: [Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

Those pesky services came back. They are systemd user services, which is a bit weird. To post a more complete solution : first, find out if Pipewire is running any services : $ systemctl --user status ● <hostname> State: running Units: 227 loaded (incl. loaded aliases) Jobs: 0 queued Failed: 0 units...

Re: Wireplumber is not installed correctly

Put your user in the group audio and place a file into /etc/security/limits.d/ (e.g. audio.conf) with: @audio - rtprio 95 @audio - memlock unlimited Then log out and log in. That's the right idea. On Arch Linux this works differently. The group with realtime privileges is called ' realtime '. Insta...

Re: [Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

You don't get dependency hell on Arch. Baroque and convoluted chains of dependencies, yes, but it never says you held broken packages when you didn't :D

Re: [Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

I actually don't use a desktop environment. I use i3wm. I only installed Plasma Desktop so I could change the theme on Kdenlive. But yes, if you install plasma-desktop , pipewire is a dependency of that, and part of installing it is that it starts two services that run realtime threads. Conceivably ...

Re: [Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

On Arch Linux pipewire-jack and jack2-dbus are conflicting packages. The package manager pacman won't let me install both of them at the same time. The packages pipewire and wireplumber can be installed, as I found out when I installed Plasma Desktop. In short Pipewire and JACK don't play together n...

Re: JACK Does Not Detect Microphone On AV Linux

Sadly, asbak thinks everyone else is as Linux-challenged as he is. Setting up Linux audio certainly isn't impossible, and I don't live in a basement.

[Solved] Pipewire interfering with JACK

I have Pipewire installed, but I don't use it. It came as a dependency of Plasma Desktop, which I installed so I could change the theme of Kdenlive. I thought it would be fine just sitting there, doing nothing. Actually two services are run : pipewire.socket and wireplumber.service . Both are runnin...

Re: Linux stability for music production

... Many people use windows and mac only because that's what the schools used, followed by that's what their employers use, and that's what the music biz uses. ... I think there is an attitude in the Linux community of "if we only fix that issue in Dolphin, then 2023 will be the year of the Li...

Re: Linux stability for music production

I can totally see why people use other OSs. OSs are often called 'platforms'. As in : "what platform are you on?". So we do have to ask "platform for what?". With the other OSs they are excellent platforms for buying stuff , having subscriptions to virtual products, and using iLo...

I don't know why you felt the need to tell us that. This is sad only, to quote Avatar. Call the papers, someone is using Windows.

We've been though this before but ... just play by feckin' ear. :D

Nocan do, not initially anyway, patience.

Honestly you can. The more you do it the better you'll get at it.

Re: naming guitar cages

I would draw a distinction between practicing and playing . When you practice you can stick to fingerings, try out modes, and have diagrams in front of you. But when playing -- put all that away and play. It may seem daft, but a good thing to practice is to play simple tunes you know, like Happy Bir...

Re: Linux stability for music production

It's a bit out there, but I think machines do 'feel' different. In broad brushstrokes there are flaky machines, and stable machines. With a flaky machine we see lots of spinning disks as the system tries to catch up with what you've asked it to do. It 'feels' like the wrong click at the wrong time w...

Re: Realtek ALC1220 sounds crap.

Looking at the link you posted this seems relevant : The TRX40 platform does not support the HD audio interface used on most desktop and mobile processors. The usual kernel module for motherboard sound is called something like 'HDA Intel'. That's not going to work on a TRX40. The two chips setup is ...
