Re: Getting paid!

I'll leave you to your Swiss cheese logic. It's really not worth dealing with any of your points, as it's likely the discussion will descend into the usual ad hominem. Posting FUD is more to be pitied than scolded.

Re: Getting paid!

Reality would bear out the argument. There is now a huge amount of recorded music in the world. Much more than when the book I linked was published in 1977. Now, virtually all of that music is available on Spotify for £9.99 a month, or whatever a Spotify subscription costs. QED.

I got Audio Assault Blacksun working. Blacksun was installed into /opt and I had to change the owner, from root to my user, of the Audio Assault folder within /opt. Then it worked.

Re: Getting paid!

There's a book called Noise : The Political Economy of Music . What I took out of the book, which isn't covered in the Wikipedia article, is that as there is more and more recorded music in the world, the value of each piece of recorded music goes down, as there is a finite budget available for musi...

Re: pipewire BS

The Arch version of Firefox has been compiled to use JACK when JACK is running. With Pipewire, Firefox may still think it's using JACK. Actually it would be using pipewire-jack . For whatever reason the Firefox JACK client isn't great, and for me will only work xrun-free with a 512 or larger buffer ...

If I pull out this pipewire, how do I get a friendly system running where I don't have to shut everything down just to open up a video to refresh my memory on say a certain EQ move that I just learned or something along those lines? ... The old way of doing it (pre-Pipewire) is to ...

Re: MIDI cable problems

Simply put, USB has gotten faster through its existence :

Even that is not quite right. 12Mb/s is USB 1.1. USB 1.0 was 1.5Mb/s, and it wasn't until USB 1.1 that audio over USB was feasible.

Re: MIDI cable problems

I haven't found anything fundamentally wrong with USB MIDI. It could be USB autosuspend, which is a power saving feature. The kernel parameter to turn it off is usbcore.autosuspend=-1 . Edit /etc/default/grub and add usbcore.autosuspend=-1 to the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= Then update GRUB, an...

Re: When is enough, enough..?

jeff's posts are Linux audio's equivalent of fake news. I think it's wise to condemn the deed, not the doer. It's possible a newbie could get completely the wrong idea from jeff's beef with JACK. Awww, boo-feckin'-hoo, jeff's auto-accompaniment app doesn't play nicely with JACK. Get over it. As a ph...

Re: When is enough, enough..?

ad hominem means you're on the back foot. But leaving aside spiraling self-reflexivity and getting back to the content -- what evidence do you have that the idea in Paul Davis's mind was a general purpose sound server? Colouring the text red doesn't make it true.

Re: When is enough, enough..?

This is the point where jeff admits what a good job the JACK developers did. They did such a good job that the JACK bridge came with its own troll. That's jeff.

Re: When is enough, enough..?

Let's leave the ad hominem aside. Why would you want an exclusive mode? It's already possible to do that with ALSA. In fact, as I'm sure you're aware, Paul Davis now recommends ALSA on the Ardour forum. For your own sake brother, are you spending too much time on Windows?

Re: When is enough, enough..?

... He [Paul Davis] didn't make an alternate mode that allows a pro-audio app to say to the OS "I want exclusive access to the sound card, I don't want you interrupting me with other app's attempts to make sound ... " Rearrange these words into a well known phrase or saying : missing, poi...

[Solved] MSI B550 Pro BIOS Update caused xruns

I updated my BIOS and this led to getting an xrun about every ten minutes. There is some controversy about the BIOS for this motherboard, and I rolled the BIOS back to a version before the issues started. The xruns stopped. I left the machine on overnight, and came back in the morning to find zero x...
