Re: Ultralite AVB

I wanted to share this UltraLite firmware (1.4.3+92494) to see if it makes any difference for the better. This firmware attempts to put a watchdog on the USB read-write delta for playback only. I have an 8pre-ES, and I don't believe I've ever had a problem on the input side. I've noticed that whene...

Re: Ultralite AVB

AudioNarwhal Thanks for getting involved and for the update. I have an 8pre-ES. Worked beautifully and never had a dropout using the 4.19 kernel complied with Drumfix 's kernel quirks. I'm on 5.15 now using Drumfix 's linux driver. That works well most of the time but I still get intermittent chann...

Re: Ultralite AVB

So this driver works for Motu AVB - with no catches? Took two minutes to install and works great using USB with my 8pre-ES. I expect it should work well with all Motu AVB capable devices using USB, but can only confirm that my own model works. I chose the 8pre-ES for the same reasons and had the sa...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Install Drumfix's driver and be done with it! :D It has worked great for my 8pre-ES on AVL-MXE and AVL MX-21. Many of us here reread this thread many times and still had sleepless nights, I know I did until Drumfix got things figured out. Previously I used Drumfix's kernel patch to compile a custom ...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Before patching kernels or installing Drumfix's driver, it seems that the problem was always on the playback side, where even though the master output on my DAW was set to channels 1/2, looking at the routing page, the signal would periodically switch to 9/10, 17/18, and since those channels weren't...

Re: Ultralite AVB

I have been running a 8pre-ES using MX Linux 18 and patched 4.19-RT kernel with Drumfix's (thanks again!) pcm.c patch and 64 channel quirk for about 2 1/2 years. It has been rock solid! In anticipation of the upcoming release of AV Linux Bullseye edition, I have been trying to understand the newer d...

Re: Linux music player recommendation

What sound pressure level do you usually listen your music at?... We could do just fine with fewer than 16 bits for masters if it weren't for the myth that lower bit depths create larger "stairsteps" in a waveform. The best that a "modern" studio reel to reel could do was the eq...

Re: Linux music player recommendation

Why would you use a full blown DAW just to host a couple of plugins? There's Carla for that. That's a good question. I'm using MX Linux 18. The kxstudio repos require having libc6 >= 2.27 installed, MX 18 repos only go to 2.24, so no Carla. I already had Ardour installed on my laptop, and it is low...

Re: Linux music player recommendation

I've found DeaDBeeF plays back without gaps... Give a chance to the Jriver... Thanks for the suggestions! I was thinking I'd DeaDBeeF with Pulse Audio/Jack sink -> Ardour (plugin host) so I can play youtube or spotify through the system as well, but looks like Jriver has all of those capabilities i...

Re: Linux music player recommendation

After thinking about it the simplest option is to convert your 16/44 files to 24/96. Then you'll factor out resampling. Hard drives are cheap these days... I was thinking I would need to go that way, but I didn't realize how prevalent media players with high quality SRC were. VLC has Sox as an opti...

AlexTheBassist wrote: Pulseaudio automatically resamples with SoX if you configure it to do so.
I did not know that Pulseaudio could be configured to use Sox.

After starting this thread I found that VLC might be an option that could meet my criteria, otherwise I'm using Jack and piecing things together.
