Re: New comuputer setup

apparently the headroom above the cooler is quite critical. OK good point, I guess I could ask for recommendations from the vendor itself. Nvidia match their drivers against 'standard' kernels, and if you are using an RT one it may be fine, or you might get crashes. I'll check out AMD/Radeon for my...

Re: Cadence: issues with system audio

https://pipewire.org/ First thing that came to my mind: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/standards.png I never really understood in first place why anyone would prefer Pulseaudio, at least it adds no value to anything I would use, especially for musicians. Ok it does have Bluetooth audio - but then aga...

Re: Cadence: issues with system audio

last time I tried with raw alsa, I got no sound at all. Then you had a different problem. The official Spotify Linux client definitely works with alsa out of the box. Maybe you had an issue similar to that: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=203951 apulse seems really the wrong solution. Ya...

Re: New comuputer setup

The decider on size was the heatsink/cooling system for the processor. Not only it's actual size, but also headroom to allow space for a proper airflow. Presumably, if you go to the expense of a water cooling system you could reduce that. Hmmm no, water cooling seems a bit over the top for me. What...

Re: Cadence: issues with system audio

Except if you need skype, or firefox, or spotify Spotify does not need pulseaudio! For Firefox and Skype there's a simple trick: sudo apt-get install apulse apulse firefox Voilá, you get sound without pulseaudio. a bunch of other applications out there that don't speak alsa anymore and just pulseau...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 + Ubuntu 17.10 + KXStudio

You probably need to patch the inputs of the Focusrite Scarlett to the inputs of your recording program.
You can do that easily with "patchage" or "catia" when jack is running.
Have you checked that?

Re: New comuputer setup

This is interesting. I was wondering about this since a while as I have a desktop with rack mounts.

4U is a bit high for me, as I have only 8U total rack space and 3U are used up.
Do you think it is feasible to build a 2U or 3U comuputer? What would be the drawbacks of a smaller case?

Re: Cadence: issues with system audio

I would simply get rid of Pulseaudio as it's not very good for making music, it adds latency.
The build-in ALSA and Jack is all you need.

I'm using Cadence with "ALSA -> Loop -> JACK bridge" and it works allright.

Re: Reptile Humanoïde Dub

I would suggest looking at the 150-400hz range a little I uploaded a new version here: http://www.callistix.net/music/Reptile%20Humano%c3%afde%20Dub%201.1.wav I did some cuts in that range but I'm not sure if that did anything audibly, can you confirm if it sounds better or not? I'm also hitting th...

Re: Reptile Humanoïde Dub

Really liked it. Thanks :) I was wishing it was a bit faster and steppa like in places That could be a good idea for my next track. I would suggest looking at the 150-400hz range a little [...] it could be groovier and hit harder if that area was cleaned up a little. OK I'll check that freq. range ...

Reptile Humanoïde Dub

A deep techno and dub techno inspired track. https://soundcloud.com/vitaminx/reptile-humanoide-dub-new-track-free-download It is entirely done with Renoise on Linux, all instruments are sample based. The track has an unusual amount of delay and reverb busses, 14 in total. As always I'd be very happy...

Re: "Stop Harming Us, Set Us Free" new decent free downloadable tune

Love that low end whooooosh sound e.g. between 2:00s and 2:45s, really nice.
For my taste the rave synth gets a little bit annoying over time, I would probably try to modulate it with a LP filter with some resonance, or leave it out now and then.

Otherwise nice chilly track :)

Re: Molam

It's gone at 0:20 but it still crackles from 3:00 on. The reason for the crackle is the Renoise builtin Maximizer that I use as hard limiter on the master track to keep the volume exactly below -3db. It crackles when it kicks in too hard, no matter how attack and release are set. Surprisingly I fou...
