Am learning quickly that usb is the way to go, my needs are similar to yours and not looking for a pro, just a reasonable setup.. Have popped a post of the main forum and am hoping for a bit of advice there but thanks for the 4.08 cents worth..!!

Hi.. Only took several hours of research, but sort of got there in the end.. Managed to change the default device to the right one, created the etc/asound.conf file so it booted up correctly (quite proud of myself, woulda run back to Wincrap a few years ago) so the mixer now shows the correct device...
