Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

I have experimented a bit more. It seems that non session manager is capable of saving guitarix state, so I will use that, as (at the moment) it is for live usage anyway. Also this might be useful for the recording situation if you use Guitarix as a standalone app, not a plugin. You can define a ses...

Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

Hi, I am experimenting with this (Guitarix inside Carla, Guitarix exported as LV2 plugin by carla). Guitarix starts in the state in which I left it when I put it in Carla. If I change something (select a preset, for instance), this is not saved. Is there a possibility to save state (and to keep diff...

Re: Cubase and ZOOM Guitar Lab

Sorry, but it doesn´t make sense to make music in a virtual machine. Period. You can pass the usb devices through (at least with virtual box, I have done so), so doing that is at least theoretically possible, but all in all it doesn´t make sense at all. If you don´t like windows for some reason, win...

Sound for Good bye blue Sky

Hi, I´m still exploring the possibilities of Linux audio. As an exercise I do a cover of "Good Bye Blue Sky" by Pink Floyd. (can be heard here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58_S5e0AVU0 , but the sound quality is not good, rather use a CD if available) I´d need suggestions how to produce ...

Compiling and using bristol

Hi, as there was no package for my system of bristol, I´ve built it myself. As I ran into some problems, I´d like to share my solutions with you. The file "alsa/iatomic.h" is not found. Solution: #ifdef _BRISTOL_JACK #if (BRISTOL_HAS_ALSA == 1) //#include <alsa/iatomic.h> #endif (changes m...

Re: Restore complete Jack-session

Thank you! I have now done some work using qtractor. I used carla-rack for virtual instruments (native linux plugins), those got restored after re-loarding qtractor. Pianotec doesn´t seem to get started automatically. I have to double-click that once, then it works. Maybe I should put the pianotec i...

Re: Help getting started

I must confess that I am very bad at mixing / mastering. I add a little compression to the vocals. Add some reverb (often just a master reverb, to have the instruments in "one room"). I have bad ears, so I usually don´t use an eq, I cannot judge what it really sounds like. I often record t...

Re: Help getting started

Hi, thanks a lot so far! For starters I looked at magicalex' tips and played some drums with the black pearl, used "Fender fingered" from the bandshed. Carla Installation and configuation was easy, too. This sounds way better than using fluidsynth ;) Some stupid QTractor-Questions: How can...

Re: Help getting started

I record them as a midi track (via a stage piano plugged into midi in of my soundcard) and use pianoteq as instrument plugin.

The same for bass and drums (though I don´ know which plugin), vocals + guitar analogue in.

Help getting started

Hi, I´ve just started my efforts in doing some musical stuff with linux. Things seem to be a bit complicated at first. So I´d like to describe what I want to do and what I´m missing at the moment. I found that I like QTractor. I have the Pianoteq Plugin. I can play Piano on my keyboard, record it an...

Re: Restore complete Jack-session

Hi, thanks for your answer. I think I´ll try out Carla. Yesterday I had a QTractor Session and was in the hope that it would take care of saving all settings for the plugins, but it didn´t. Carla can use Windows VST, can it? I am under the impression that there are not enough native Linux VSTs, espe...

Re: Hi from Germany

I played a bit with buffer sizes today. With my M-Audio Delta 1010LT I can go as low as 32 bit buffer, which gives less than one millisecond latency (tried this with pianoteq).

That´s really cool!

Restore complete Jack-session

Hi, I´m a newbie to using Jack. While I found most of it very intuitive, I have failed in saving and restoring a complete setup. I use qjackctl . I had pianoteq and jack-rack with g-verb running. I saved my session in qjackctl. But when I restore that session, the connections do not work, even thoug...

Hi from Germany

Hi, I´m from Germany. I do music both privately and as a profession (teacher). I sing, play piano and guitar (both acoustic and electric). I have been using computers for music for a very long time, starting with Cubase on Atari ST in the late 80s. While I use Linux for everything else (my other sub...
