Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

I did some tests yesterday evening, because I had learnt about the "DSP load" (I had seen the term in some posts, bud had not known what it really is and where it is shown). It seems to me that live-mixing with effects and virtual instruments is really demanding. While on one hand this mig...

Re: Digital jamming for music education on upcycled PCs

Hi, I also think that you won't need a mixer. As my name says, I'm a music teacher. The whole field of music education + computers is very interesting and has lots of possibilities. The critical aspect of hardware is the audio-interface, because those are not standard-gear. I have used computers for...

Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

No, not yet. I'll do that tomorrow. I have a gig next friday, for that I need just one instance of guitarix anyway (for the bass guitar), because I will stick to my hardware guitar-simulation (good old line 6). But in the long run I am very interested in switching to guitarix completely. The thought...

Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

Thank you. I have carla 1.9.13, guitarix 0.37.3 and qtractor 0.9.3 with Qt 5.12.0. So there might be a regression somewhere which leads to my problems. I´m on arch, there is an older version of guitarix in the AUR, I will try that. The other packages are not that easy to downgrade. Regards, Andreas

Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

Interesting. My xml file looks exactly the same (it had the -f parameter in it, but I removed it to resemble yours). It does not work. Guitarix starts with no preset. The effects are those that were present when guitarix was last started in standalone mode. Could you please post me the exact version...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Yes. I had a piano plugged in my usb-interface, the sound was generated through pianoteq.

I used jack midi (as non session manager can only restore jack connections, not alsa connections), and the midi + audio (capture and playback) were all on the same card, maybe this matters.

Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

Thank you. That's exactly was I did. But if I insert a plugin that was generated as described in QTractor, it starts with no preset + no effects each time. I have experimentet with the -f parameter in the plugin-xml. It seems that saving state does not occur at all when used this way as a plugin. No...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Hi, this worked (with low latency, I used 64 bit, 2 periods, 48 kHz). However, it didn't sound well at first, because I used way too much compression for the vocals, so everything sounded "boring", which lead to a quite unpleasant atmosphere. Also, I am not happy with the non-mixer, as it ...

Re: Guitarix as a plugin?

Hi, sorry for bumping. I still had no success in using Guitarix as a plugin (exported by carla) with saving state. If I start guitarix from the console I can keep different states by using the -f Mystatefile option. But (contrary to what @Tramp indicated ) the state is not saved when used as a plugi...

Re: Distro with midi out of the box

As this is not distro-specific, you'd probably be better off asking this in the "system tuning and configuration" sub: https://linuxmusicians.com/viewforum.php?f=27 However, as a quick info: playing software synths with low lacency via a midi keyboard is definitely possible, so it is likel...

Re: Re-using existing Wine install

That's right as long as everything that worked with wine works with wine staging, too. This is mostly, but not always, the case, so I would at least backup the wine-prefix before updating!

Re: Re-using existing Wine install

Hi, a possibility to use different Versions of WINE at the same time is "play on linux". Here you can even use different versions of WINE for each program you use! You need to have enough disk-space. play on linux also needs some getting used to, but it's quite nice to keep installs an win...

Re: Live mixing with Linux - State of the art 2018

Interesting thread. I also want to transfer my live-mixing to be completely digital, but on a much smaller stage. The reason is that we use our rehearsal room together with others and thus start from scratch every time we plug in our microphones and instruments. I will approach things completely dif...

Re: Manjaro?

I use antergos, which is also arch based.
So far, my experience was very good. I have another machine running KDE Neon (which is Ubuntu-based), and find that the software availability for musicians is better with Arch based distros (linuxsampler, for instance, or the non - tools).

Re: One month and counting without RT kernel on Arch Linux

I use an arch based distro, too (Antergos). I have switched just recently, but so far had no problems with the vanilla kernel.
I use a Delta 1010LT with 128 byte buffer, 2 periods (5,xx ms latency).
