Re: Commercial orchestral libraries in linux?

If you don't mind using non-free software then why not use Kontakt? Does it work reliably in Linux? Kontakt player would be ok, but anything requiring full version of Kontakt is out question, just because Kontakt costs more that I am ready to pay :-) I don't know about Kontakt player. I use full Ko...

Do you plan to make strings libraries?
Yes. I've started work on the solo strings already, I've sampled a concert harp and a violin. Once I've done the solo strings I'll start on sections.

Re: Virtual Midi Port/Cable

Have you by any chance installed cadence previously? This could be starting in the background.. No I've never had cadence on this machine. This might give you the "faulty parent" name and address ;) #>: ps -ef | grep $( ps -C jackd --no-headers -o ppid ) I don't know what to do with the output from...

Re: Virtual Midi Port/Cable

you seem to have some client that managed to auto(magically)started jackd ... and it also seems that it's still up and running... otherwise that "jackd -T .." would be long gone... anyway... try this: 1. killall -9 jackd 2. run qjackctl, go to Setup > Misc: turn off "Save JACK audio server configur...

Re: Virtual Midi Port/Cable

I can't find anything specific that's starting the JACK server, however I am using the pulse-audio sink which runs on start-up, does this automatically start the JACK server? You may check it any old time in a console: #>: ps -ef | grep -i jack I get this output, but I don't know what it means dave...

Re: Virtual Midi Port/Cable

care to show your QjackCtl only meaningful iif you start the JACK server via QjackCtl on its own premises. Ooooh I bet that has something to do with the issue, it was years ago when I setup JACK but I'm pretty sure I have it auto-starting with the system, I'll see what's going on. Thanks for the tip!

Kott wrote:Sorry, I didn't read your post closely. This option doesn't work for You.

As some advice, it can be debugged:

strace -f qjackctl 2>/tmp/out

then search for a2jmidi in /tmp/out file
Nope didn't see anything in the out file. I think I'll give in and install Cadence.

Re: Virtual Midi Port/Cable

a2j can work only when jackd is started not sure that starting a2j* just after qjackctl is enough, even if qjackctl starts jackd automatically, so, maybe you need to insert some "sleep" in your command Cadence can handle this case Well the method recommended by the qjackctl dev is to use it as a po...

Re: Virtual Midi Port/Cable

Thanks, that worked! How do I get a2j to auto-start? I tried "a2jmidid -e &" as a command to run after startup in qjackctl but it didn't seem to make a difference. Does it require a system restart to take effect?
