Re: Towering Granite
I like it. Electronic orchestral instruments always sound cheesy compared to the real thing, but the composition is strong.

Thanks for listening, crownbird. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Music should inspire and uplift.

You have a nice sound overall, and I particularly like your acoustic guitar work. As content creators it is really hard for us to predict and understand why some of our creations are received better than others. We put our heart and soul into our work, and we love all of our recordings, but that is ...

Re: Open Source Drum Samples
Check this thread: https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=17030 In the thread there are links to download samples and a step-by-step guide for how to convert them to Hydrogen's format. I just finished a project using these brush kit samples in Hydrogen, so I know it can be done. Good lu...

U-Turn
Here is my latest track: https://alansanderson.band/2019/01/05/u-turn/
The recording was done entirely on Linux Mint, using Ardour and Hydrogen. It is an acoustic guitar song, upbeat with a swing feel. Enjoy!

Re: brush kit for Hydrogen?
The file is too large to attach. Try following the instructions on my previous post. It's not as hard as it looks.
Let me know if you get stuck somewhere.

Re: brush kit for Hydrogen?
I got this working. Here were my steps: 1) Download brushkit.zip from http://www.bandshed.net/sounds/sfz/ 2) Download this script: https://github.com/rock-hopper/makeh2kit 3) Unzip both files, then open the BrushKit directory in a terminal window. 4) Run this command: flac *.wav 5) Run this command:...

Good guess! It is the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City. My house was at the base of the mountain in the center of the photo.

Also, I wrote a tablature score for the song, which you can find here if you want to learn how to play it: https://alansanderson.band/2018/07/14/g ... -on-linux/

My Abode
Here is may latest recording, again done entirely on Linux: https://alansanderson.band/2018/06/02/when-i-was-lonely/. Used Ardour on Linux Mint with a Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface. This is different from most songs you will hear posted on Linux forums, because it is not electronica. It is actual...

Guitar Tablature Editors
I just wrote a review of my experience using Tux Guitar and MuseScore to write guitar tablature. My main conclusion is that Tux Guitar has a better notation palette for tablature, but that MuseScore has a better interface and produces more beautiful scores. I hope you find it useful: https://alansan...

Re: A First Look at LMMS
But it is not a tool for recording audio samples, which was my point. You have to record and process audio samples using a different tool before importing them into LMMS. In my case it made more sense to export the synth tracks from LMMS into Ardour to record the guitar, but I suppose I could have t...

A First Look at LMMS
I just posted a beginner's tutorial for LMMS, basically a description of my early experience with using it: https://alansanderson.band/2017/09/15/a ... k-at-lmms/
