Re: Bicycle Walk
Nice track, psyocean! This sounds like it was fun to record. How did you do the guitar effects? It sounds like you used a compressor and limiter, as well as the distortion? I also have written music about cycling, and I often work on my songs while I am cycling or running. Being on a bicycle puts my...

Re: jam618 - sketch
I've been listening to this all morning. First I will say that I quite like the sound. Your guitar work is simply lovely. The synth textures are also quite nice, and the variability throughout the piece is nice to follow. I think @lilith is right about the middle section needing a bit of something t...

Re: first factors for audio interface
I have a 2nd gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 that works great on all of my computers, running different versions of Linux Mint (17.1 through 19.1). I understand that the interface works well on other distros, but I haven't personally used it on anything but Mint. It was about $150 brand new IIRC, and wor...

Welcome to the forum, BHArts1! Southern Wisconsin - land of green pastures, lakes every half mile, and cheese. Pretty country, that. What is your Linux experience? Are you a newbie or an old hand? What's your distro? Please post some of your tunes in the Original Scores & Recordings subforum. We...

Re: Hello Linux Musicians
Welcome Swi! We are glad you're here. Like Michael said, there is much to learn and the curve might be a little steep at first. Definitely play with Linux in a sandbox before you try to switch your whole professional workflow over. The "old laptop" plan you mentioned in the OP is right on....

Please tell us more about your audio setup. What audio interface are you using? Do you have an external USB sound interface or are you using your computer's sound card?

Welcome to the forum!
I would also suggest poking around on LMMS, which has a number of synths with decent presets.

Re: Storing projects on Google drive...concerns?
Maybe I am just overthinking about a non-issue but it's sort of been bugging me. Thanks ahead of time! I think this particular concern is probably overboard. Imagine the optics of a lawsuit brought against Google for commandeering intellectual property from their users. It would be terrible PR for ...

Re: 'Thanks for posts' plugin for phpBB3
This would be great. There is many posts which are great, but I feel replying message saying 'gr8' too stupid and spamming. Yeah, but . . . It might be better for discussion to have a limited feature set in the forum interface. Think of how much the "Like" button has shut down conversatio...

Re: I'll be back for you (instrumental version)
This is a solid effort for your first try on these tools. I especially like the chorus effect on the guitar in the quieter parts of the track. Do yourself a favor and buy a cheap bass at a pawn shop for $100. You won't regret it. Playing bass on a 6-string guitar never works out the way you hope it ...

Re: The Midnight / Hubble Space Telescope
"The Midnight" is interesting. The two voices are mostly in unison (though in different octaves), although they split here and there for brief moments. I found myself wishing for more counterpoint. Maybe I listen to too much Baroque. :) Overall I like this sound, and I think you should kee...

Re: Waves Of Memories
I agree with Michael. This piece is quite nice - both the composition and the sound engineering. A casual listener might be fooled into thinking some of those were acoustic instruments here and there. I was impressed. I listen to a lot of classical music, but I don't aspire to compose it. That's far...

Re: TuxGuitar not seen by Jack
Glad you got it working! Tuxguitar sound output is a bit temperamental in my experience, and I have one system that I never got it working on and finally gave up.
Happy TABbing!

Re: TuxGuitar not seen by Jack
Do you have the tuxguitar-jack package installed? There are separate tuxguitar packages for alsa, oss, jsa, and fluidsynth playback. See https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=tuxguitar, for instance.

Re: Little Longnose
Very nice work, psyocean! Sounds like it's warm enough in Russia to play guitar again! I like this tune a lot. It is a very nice play between softer synth sounds and the harsher guitar tones.
