Re: Dragonfly Reverb 2.0.0
I learned some things from his video. Cutting out the bass frequencies in the reverb on the kick drum and bass guitar is a good idea which I will definitely try. Anything that helps clear out the mud in the low frequencies is worth trying!

Re: Dragonfly Reverb 2.0.0
Congratulations on the glowing review! My favorite quote from the video: "Because it's FREAKING AWESOME!"Michael Willis wrote:Woo! Unfa just put up a showcase of Dragonfly Hall.
We have been corresponding for a couple of days, he said he might make one for Dragonfly Room as well.

Re: How to improve drum machine sound
If you can get the midi notes off of your device and into a midi track in a DAW like Ardour, Qtractor, etc, then a drum plugin like DrumGizmo or AVL Drumkits LV2 should work. You might have to play with the midi mapping a bit. Audacity won't cut it for this task.

Re: casette recording
I quite like this. I listened to it several times over the weekend. The VU meters as the only moving thing in the video are kind of hypnotic. I especially like the subtle synth that comes in briefly at about 1:30. Overall a very relaxing mood piece. Was this recorded on a cassette machine? An old 4-...

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio
I have a lot of things installed from the KX repositories: ALSA, jackd2, Amsynth, guitarix, qjackctl, hydrogen, lmms, calf-plugins, zynaddsubfx, etc. It's all running fine. Here's Carla:

Re: The June / Ladoga
"Июнь" however is rather bland I found. It just goes by ... yes, it is for background listening, but this is too literal :) That's funny, because I liked "The June" better than "Ladoga"! To each his own, I suppose. "The June" has a laid back feel, like an ear...

Re: Best current Ubuntu for KXStudio
I am running Mint 19 on my studio machine, and haven't had any problems with KXstudio repository. Works great as far as I can tell. But I don't use any of the KX software: Carla, Cadence, Catia, [insert random female name that starts with C], etc. so I can't say much about them.

Re: VCV Rack 1.0 released
I downloaded this and played around with it last night, and it is pretty cool. The interface is definitely better than the prerelease version I had been using before. I couldn't get polyphony working, though. I enabled polyphony on the midi input, and the cables got fatter to show visually that it ...

Re: Hello from WIsconsin,USA
Ardour isn't as scary as it looks, although I remember feeling intimidated too. It really is miles ahead of Audacity though, so it's worth the effort to learn. I would suggest reading the Ardour manual: http://manual.ardour.org/toc/ . It really is useful and informative, and quite readable. Again, w...

Re: old improv
That sounds like it was a lot of fun to record. (I think it's more fun to play this genre than to listen to it! :)) Dragonfly is nice, but this might have a little much. How did you do the drums? Are they also vintage or did you make them new? I am also working on a restoration of an old recording. ...

Re: is Hydrogen better than Ardour for drums
I have used both workflows, and I find myself preferring to use midi drums within the DAW for programming. There are some really nice things about programming in Hydrogen, and it is a capable piece of software, but the workflow does get really messy. Setting up your initial patterns is fairly straig...

Re: Dragonfly Room Reverb - Testers needed
I just published a draft of the Dragonfly Room Reverb manual: https://michaelwillis.github.io/dragonfly-reverb/dragonfly-room-manual.html As always, feedback is welcome. This is very readable, and clearly explains the function of each control. The additional notes about how to listen for the differ...

Re: Storing projects on Google drive...concerns?
Maybe I should amend my comments, in light of this recent news story: https://gizmodo.com/genius-claims-it-busted-google-stealing-by-hiding-a-sec-1835582388 . In short, an online lyrics website called Genius claims that Google stole its content for its own lyrics service. The evidence looks pretty c...
