Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)

Being a die-hard Linux user is sort of likee being an exclusive barefoot runner. Yes, there are some theoretical advantages to barefoot running, but there are also some very real limitations that you have to be willing to accept. Barefoot running, for all of its challenges, is actually a lot of fun....

Re: New Music: Mountain Foothills Hotel (v.1)

I think these are effective as soundtrack pieces. The short length of them all leaves me wanting more. The third track seems to be the most developed musically. That sounds like a real saxophone; it's hard to get a synth to sound that good, and I can't imagine doing it in LMMS. The electric guitar a...

Re: Newbie: Need recommendation for distro for running Wine/VST

AVLinux is still a good choice I think. GMaq didn't give any indication that he was going to stop updating the distro, and there are plenty of AVLinux users who can help answer questions on this forum. I also agree that Ubuntu (or derivative) + KXStudio is a good choice. Ubuntu Studio has plenty of ...

Re: Short forays to nature

Very nice! The music is pleasant to listen to, and the nature videos are nice. You live in a beautiful place! I showed this to my youngest kids at bedtime. They were playing with trains in the living room, and I said, "Do you want to watch a video from Russia?" They both looked up at me wi...

Re: The ideas of GNU/Linux

The Cathedral and the Bazaar by Eric S. Raymond: http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/cathedral-bazaar/cathedral-bazaar/ Over the years I have wondered whether his insights can be applied to music making. Some people compose music in the Cathedral style, and others seem to work well in the Bazaar style...

Re: Mary

I have never used a condenser mic, but that might be part of the issue. Those things can be crazy sensitive. Even with a dynamic mic you have to use a foam cap on the mic to reduce the percussive consonants. How close to the mic was she, and did you have anything covering the mic?

Re: Mary

Wow! That's pretty epic! An ambitious work, and well-executed, IMO. The piece has good flow, like every part belongs, and the progression is logical. It tells the story well, and knowing the story helps the listener interpret the music. The story has emotional impact, and I think the emotion works i...

Re: Xmonk.lv2, aLV2 toy

Here's a quick demo I recorded: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bg7rQ6tixWLAcOFV_nfZLLjQDKOpc3Sz/view?usp=sharing (The drums are Geonkick, the bass is Amsynth.)

This plugin is very fun to use! Thanks again for developing it!

It works! And it's pretty sweet. My boys are going to love this! I'll post some audio later.

Thank you for developing this, and for helping me troubleshoot it.

Re: My first album (3 years of of experimentations and learning)

Happy to hear that you like my tunes. They are also definitely reminding me of my youth (i'm still young btw). I'm doing the music I'd like to listen to. Well spotted for #6 ! I'm a huge Cure fan. My aim was to create something that sound "Curish". Some people are complaining that my tune...

Re: My first album (3 years of of experimentations and learning)

I like these tunes! Your sound palette reminds me of the music from my youth. Even your guitar tones fit in that genre. (#6 on your album sounds like it could have been on an early album by The Cure, for instance.) You also have the gift of brevity, which was a rare virtue in the 1980's. Your album ...

Re: 'Daybreak', new trance EP

Solid work! This is musically interesting, and I think pushes outside the boundaries of trance a few times. The orchestral portion of the last track, for instance, and the piano cadenza in another. Overall the album sounds more like late 80's techno in a way (that's a good thing, IMO). I also like t...
