Re: General MIDI synth

But still; it looks like I have to load a sf2 file into the GM player manually for each track? To be more precise, you have to load a GM soundfont file into the soundfont player. Do you mean in ardour, right? So the soundfont player is Calf fluidsynth plugin, I assume. A quicker way: In the mixer w...

Re: General MIDI synth

To put it simply, Calf fluidsynth and qsynth are sf2 players and they expect you load at least one soundfont file into them. If said soundfont is a GM, such as FluidR3_GM.sf2 (which you have installed via fluid-sound-gm package), you will get the desired GM player with both Calf fluidsynth and qsynt...

Re: General MIDI synth

I have just installed fluid-soundfont-gm and fluid-soundfont-gs, but there's no /usr/share/sounds/sf2/ on my computer Did you double-check? /usr/share has a lot of subdirectories, you might have missed it. Just to make sure, to see the files a particular package installs in your system you can use ...

Re: Trying to get going with KXStudio - Jack question

This is involved, I can't help with the random numbering more than the link I gave. Maybe you need a udev rule or something. I strongly recommend you call the cards by its short name. hw:Generic only has one HDMI device. hw:Generic_1 has a playback device, probably duplex (check arecord -l). So, use...

Re: Problems using Scarlet 2i2 whit Jack

From the log, I can't see any problem. Although I agree that 64 frames/period is unnecessarily low and risky, Jack seems to start correctly. In the connection manager the Scarlett is called "system". A quick test is playing some music from Audacious with the jack audio output (Archivo, Pre...

Re: Trying to get going with KXStudio - Jack question

To solve the problem caused by the random card numbering each time you reboot the computer, either you call the audio interface by its short name (the names between square brackets in the output of "cat /proc/asound/cards" that you can also see just after the colon in the output of "a...

Re: Trying to get going with KXStudio - Jack question

Check the input devices arecord -l and the output devices aplay -l If the Zoom H4n doesn't have a duplex capable device (i.e., one that appears in both lists of capture and playback devices), then you have to check "Duplex mode" in Cadence's Jack Settings, alsa driver configuration so you ...

Re: Linux and Yamaha Compatibility

Is Audacity considered sub-standard? Audacity is a nice audio editor, but for multitrack recording and quick non-destructive editing I suggest ardour. On the other hand, although standard ubuntu might work, it is not a good choice for a home studio. There are music oriented distros, ubuntustudio fo...

Re: Connect and Setup USB MIDI keyboard

First of all, check that you have selected the right audio card in Cadence, System tab, configure button, driver tab, ALSA driver. Output device has to be set to your USB audio interface, not to the onboard one which is normally the default option. Note that this configuration (jack configuration, t...

Re: LinuxSampler doesn't work

Hi josie, It seems that you haven't added a channel. It should appear in qsampler's main panel. Edit -> Add channel This is where you load the instrument and configure the MIDI input and audio output. You can also use Jack MIDI for MIDI input so you can connect jack-midi keyboard directly to linuxsa...

Re: Xubuntu and Guitarix problems - are they related to Xubuntu?

(connections in JACK are ok, but my coputer just somehow decided to start using internal mic instead of my USB soundcard, imagine that audio feedback :( ) Yes, this is is frustrating. You should refer to cards by name, not by number, in jack's configuration. Card numbers sometimes change when you r...
