Spectre is arguably the bigger problem...

The alsa-devel mailing list http://mailman.alsa-project.org/mailman ... alsa-devel would IMO be the best place to report it.

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

I do realize that this is a work in progress, so maybe this is a stupid idea and the target is a single binary, but any chance the various embed/standalone/dnd options could be built into the same binary and selected by an environment variable?

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

That's very nice, thanks for the tips. The issue is though, regular users will not do this. It's great that you know the way around the system to do this, yes, but this is precisely the thing we were discussing before. Users want a simpler solution that does not involve copying and manually managin...

Re: Any recent DAW comparisons?

I know the makefiles are obvious for what they do... question is, which one should we use? which one is better, more stable, what are the trade-offs...? I actually just went through the readme quickly, and got even more confused... I don't understand all that WINEPREFIX stuff.. In Carla I made it s...

Re: AV Linux 2018... what kernel do ya want for default??

The answer to (a) is I don't know, and the answer to (b) is only by installing the latest lowlatency kernel from our repository and using the included sgfxi script as discussed here in Reply #6: http://bandshed.net/forum/index.php?topic=4039.msg24192#msg24192 Ok, so AVLinux 2017 defaults to realtim...

Re: AV Linux 2018... what kernel do ya want for default??

No matter what becomes default there will still be both kernel preemption types available in the repositories.. Great news! Someone on the reaper forum with a nvidia and 4 screens was just asking about realtime kernel + nvidia, wasn't quite sure what to say. He seemed to think it might be a problem...

Re: AV Linux 2018... what kernel do ya want for default??

I just noted the default part of the topic! :)

I guess you could default to lowlat if that is an improvement for someone, don't really see why it would be.. But in that case, please keep an optional rt for users to install if they are so inclined. Like that everyone can get what they want.

Re: AV Linux 2018... what kernel do ya want for default??

I'll repeat 8) Linux-rt can most certainly be used with nvidia.. One patch for the kernel, and an additional parameter to override the check that makes the nvidia module building process abort. Easiest is to use dkms to build nvidia and to do the following: "sed -i 's/NV_EXCLUDE_BUILD_MODULES/I...

Not that i've ever tried, but I've heard it being said that if you remove the round grill at the top, it sounds very much like a sm57. Something like 2 mics for the price of one ;)

Re: Question for Zoom R16 owners using Fedora as well

None of the above shows anything interesting to me. The idea is to have something open that outputs the messages from the kernel when the system goes down. If you are lucky it might output something that gives an indication of what goes wrong when it hangs/crashes. But see if you can't figure out ho...

Re: New headphones

The shape of the response can still be tuned to a desired shape by the choice of the front volume, speaker and resistive mesh in the controlled front-to-open-space leak. So, although perhaps many open back headphones sounds less boomy with respect closed back headphone of similar size, I wouldn't s...

Re: BitWig Studio 2.2 on sale until Jan 15th 2018

In general I feel slightly ashamed asking for NFRs, but I do ask sometimes. From some I've never heard back, and from others I've gotten nearly the entire catalogue. I asked one of the really big firms once and got no reply, so I forgot about it. About a year later they got in contact and I got thei...

Re: BitWig Studio 2.2 on sale until Jan 15th 2018

Have you considered asking them for a NFR?

After all you do contribute to the community and might need to test it more than superficially to make sure it runs well on your distro.

Re: Question for Zoom R16 owners using Fedora as well

Hmm, that parameter has been there for quite awhile, -w is short for --follow which means that it doesn't exit and shows new msgs. Maybe there is another way you can monitor what happens in the kernel message buffer. Do you have some program that can show you the syslog. If you have a systemd system...
