Cool, thanks for the tip.
I installed Drumgizmo yesterday but was a bit puzzled when I found there was no option to start it from Kubuntu's application menu. Is it not intended for standalone use?

Re: MIDI controllable drum machine
You're absolutely right! I didn't realise that. All I needed to do was connect MuSE to Hydrogen in the ALSA tab in qjackctl.
Thanks for your answer!

MIDI controllable drum machine
Hi all I'm looking for a tool for writing drum tracks which can be controlled by (i.e. the patterns sequenced in) a MIDI sequencer such as MuSE. The tool needs to be JACK compatible. I've tried two things, which are not suitable: Hydrogen - you can't sequence it from outside itself, you have to do t...

LMMS MIDI control of external synthesizers
Hi all I'm currently trying out different MIDI sequencers and DAWs to find out which is the best fit for my need for a good MIDI sequencer to control my hardware synthesizers. I've started using LMMS and I like the interface and am generally getting a good vibe from it. However, I'm a bit confused a...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)
Wow, this thread has moved on a lot since I last looked. As I said earlier, I have a 3rd Gen 18i8 and would be pleased to help however I can, but I don't know what a 'usbmon dump' is... is there a guide to doing this kind of thing? I would certainly welcome a deb... the only thing I've ever built fr...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)
I did get it out of MSD mode. I first tried to using the method in the docs but it didn't seem to work so IIRC I just held down the 48v button for about 15 seconds while powering it on. Just to confirm that this worked for me with my 3rd Gen 18i8. * Turn it off * Hold down the left 48V button (not ...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)
I've just bought a 3rd Gen 18i8. Audio works out of the box. It doesn't show up as a MIDI interface, presumably because it's still in 'MSD Mode'. Holding down the 48V switch didn't seem to take it out of MSD Mode, so I'll have to do that next time I have a Windows machine with Focusrite Control. Kee...

Expanding inputs with the DP-88
Hi all I currently use the Scarlett 6i6 interface. I've previously used the 2i2 and had no problem using either on Linux (apart from the control software!). I need more inputs as I keep accidentally buying synthesizers. I could get the Scarlett 18i8, which has ADAT input, and later on use that to ad...

Re: Yoshimi doesn't show in ALSA tab of qjackctl
It's the version from the Ubuntu repository. 1.5.0. Thanks for your suggestion, but I don't know what I need to change! In the ALSA settings, I have the following options: Alsa MIDI Source -> default Set as preferred MIDI -> unchecked Also audio device -> default Set as preferred audio -> unchecked ...

Yoshimi doesn't show in ALSA tab of qjackctl
Hi there This is really confusing! So I've got qtracktor sending MIDI data to an external drum machine. It took me a while to get this working but eventually I figured out that I needed to open qjackctl's Connections, go into the ALSA tab, and connect up Qtractor in the readable clients to the right...

Re: Recommended JACK compliant MIDI sequencer
Thanks everyone. I've tried Rosegarden and got it working straightaway! I like the look of Qtractor but can't actually create a clip with it... I'll persevere.

Recommended JACK compliant MIDI sequencer
Hi all! Just looking for some advice. I've used SuperCollider on Linux for a few years, but it's all I've used apart from dabbling with Hydrogen. Although SC requires JACK, I've never used JACK to patch other programs together. I'm thinking about buying a TB-03 synthesiser (i.e. hardware), whose MID...

Re: JACK won't play through Bluetooth speaker.
Thanks, FalkTX. I found that out yesterday too. So I tried to install bluez-alsa, but APT told me that bluez-alsa isn't available anymore and I should consider bluez to be it's replacement package. (I can't remember the exact wording it used, but it was words to that effect). Trouble is, I already h...
