Re: Which version of wine-staging works best currently?

Marlon I don't know how to integrate Kontakt in Reaper or in Ardour. I mean the program lies in the hidden folder of .wine. How can I integrate it as a plugin? Does anybody know? Assuming you mean to use yabridge as the wrapper for your Windows VST2 / VST3 / CLAP plugins, see the docs here: https:/...

Re: How do YOU decide when a song's finished?

I've got a friend / songwriting mentor who says, Just keep rewriting until you hear the song on the radio. I find that I don't quite agree: there are songs of mine which don't get better when I mess with them, and a bunch of others where all I really need is a better vocal recording: I'm usually rus...

Is there a native Linux host for instruments with the CLAP?

Re: Audio Assault has a new channel strip plugin

artix_linux_user I can not imagine a channel stripe plugin with a native GUI-that would be probably not so streamlinded and comfortable... Having a fancy GUI wouldn't be that efficient then some nice ladspa or lv2 plugins... I can't imagine that the GUI has much of an effect on the performance whil...

Audio Assault has a new channel strip plugin

I haven't tried it yet (and may not, as I'm pretty used to the built-in Harrison controls), but it looks good, and has a native Linux VST2 and VST3 versions:

https://audioassault.mx/products/aa-551-channel-strip

The introductory price is $7.99 (down from $34.99 list), with a free demo.

Re: CCR - Albert Hall Concert film finally released!

@Gmaq An interesting companion piece to the CCR Netflix film... shameless plug here.. PiXXelFiXX is my Video Restoration alter ego and last year from 3 different sources I restored and upscaled the 1971 CCR 'In Concert' documentary from which some of the archival footage in the Netflix film was used...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2nd and 3rd Gen mixer driver

azido What exactly have i to do in order to get my Focusrite Scarlet 6i6 Gen2 fully recognized on ubuntu? What do i need to install and how? I have some basic linux experience, but that subject seems to be too much for me right now. Can you help me step by step? AFAIK, you should be able to get you...

Re: CCR - Albert Hall Concert film finally released!

GMaq not to overstate but the unity I've seen at some concerts of 'classic' artists is a real weird juxtapostion to kids getting trampled and crushed to death at other events, that really isn't a dig about any particular music style simply an observation at how some of that music from the so-called...

Re: Are there any QUALITY bagpipe plugins for Linux?

j_e_f_f_g Here's a bagpipe sfz I made: Thanks for sharing that instrument: it is cool to see release triggers in the SFZ file! It seems slightly odd have e.g. Ab / Eb mapped: aren't Highland pipes normally diatonic in D? In general, sampling / mapping all 9 notes of the chanter would seem like a na...

Re: Nice article on Flatpak, Snap, AppImage, Docker and Steam

folderol says By all means use modern fast kit for work, but test on older kit to keep yourself relevant. I would extend that sentiment to emphasize that building binary releases should be done using "older kit," preferably the set of libraries / headers which are shipped by the "old...

Re: Using alsa in parallel with pipewire

I am enormously puzzled by those (including the core Ardour devs) who insist that "just use ALSA" is the way forward: do none of them ever need to have more than one sound-producing/consuming application running simultaneously? Is running Guitarix, Pianoteq, Yoshimi as standalone apps (ver...

Re: What makes Jazz, jazz

First, I haven't read to the end of the thread, but as a long-time player in a jazz ensemble, I did want to reply to one part j_e_f_f_g 's characterization here: Typically a jazz song has simple, repetitive chord progressions (because complex progressions would be too difficult to remember without b...

Re: Getting a big deep kick drum sound

Another trick for an already-recorded single bass track is to duplicate the track, with complementary low- and high-pass filters on the duplicates. You can then, for instance, add saturation / distortion to the one which keeps the higher frequencies (making them "poke out"), while selectiv...
