Re: Scarlett Mix CXontrol Can I Install?

@gitlvr

I haven't tried very hard to get Scarlett MixControl working. Instead, I am successfully using Robin Gareus' scarlett-mixer with my gen 1 18i20:

Re: dedicated Hobby Musician & Linux User

talby Recording the reheasals is about later analyzing what I practiced by listening to the recording, studying what to improve, what to focus my next work on. For this use case it is quite comfortable, as I do it currently with an app on my iOS cell phone as the recorder and "post-session mon...

GMaq "OK Boomer!" (actually I'm a Gen-X)... fair enough.. Heh, I'm an actual boomer (just barely: barley might fit me better....), and have been doing software development for a living since about the time Wozniak deferred to Jobs about the future of Apple Computers. I've got less than ze...

Re: Bitwig piano

@amc252

unlike pianoteq, at least all the keys work.

Hmmm. I'm successfully using Pianoteq 7 (the native Linux version) in pretty much all my work. I use it both as a standalone app and as an LV2 plugin.

I haven't been tempted to try upgrading to version 8 yet, however.

@walrus

Much further testing is required, but I'm off to a good start.

Yay! So glad you found your way to a place from which you can make progress toward your musical goals.

Re: Traction F-em plugin problems

Largos Their website says "Tested on Ubuntu 18.04 " This is an end of life distribution so that tells you all that is needed about their attitude to Linux. Two possible mitigating factors to this point: Building / testing on the glibc of an older, widely-used LTS might be a valid strategy...

Re: JUCE resampler

Ob. disclaimer: I haven't done serious C / C++ development for years. Nevertheless, perhaps this might help: float ratio = (float) session_samplerate / samplerate; You might want to coerce both values before dividing, e.g.: float ratio = ((float) session_samplerate) / ((float) samplerate); Given tha...

Re: what sequencer to teach my kid?

@alkuk, your well-meant response came across a bit harsh and dogmatic to me. My first take is that I would suggest first the DAW-ish environment I use for myself: not because it is intrinsically better, but because I can be more helpful if my child is using it. I'm speaking from experience here: my ...

j_e_f_f_g P.S. C++ is not beyond you. I have no doubt you can learn it. Uhh, LinMusGuy said: I happen to like math and programming in Faust is like operating with functions and graphs, so that's why I get it. The gulf between the two (Faust and C++) is pretty formidable. FWIW, I made a living back ...

Re: A word of warning

j_e_f_f_g I got it from the only place you'll ever get important information like this (because linux developers tend not to document this stuff). And that place is directly from jack2's source code. I saw how it ripped lines of code right out of alsa's asound lib (ie the library functions that app...

Re: A word of warning

j_e_f_f_g Jack2 bypasses alsa's official "API". It directly interacts with audio drivers (without alsa's involvement). And it creates and modifies internal data structures that no app is supposed to ever touch. Hmm, I'm not contradicting you, because I'm unsure, but I'd like to see where ...

Re: Drumgizmo overheads

crustypants Hi, does anyone know if the overheads on Drumgizmo are supposed to have snare/toms in them? I am using the Aasimonster kit, and I can't hear any. I started to write: IIRC, those kinds of choices (how much bleed from one source to another) are made by the engineer recording the samples: ...

Re: getting my audio interface to connect

FWIW, I've been mucking about in the "try-to-make-music-on-Linux" world for about twenty-five years now: I've done all the accepted bits of tweaking: install a Linux-supported PCI sound card; muck about with various Linux kernels to get support for this hardware (lather-rinse-repeat for fi...

Re: Getting paid!

"Making a living" can be defined in a number of ways. In my state (Virginia, USA) at the time of posting, a full-time minimum wage job pays USD 13.00/hour, or USD 27,000 /year. One would need to define "winning" at writing such Minecraft "scores" in terms of a business ...
