How to use KlangFalter

I'm trying to use KlangFalter. I installed it succesfully from the KXStudio repos, added it as a plugin in Ardour, and opened up its GUI. When I try to load impulses (that I downloaded from http://www.samplicity.com/download/ and http://legacy.spa.aalto.fi/projects/poririrs/ ), the part of the inter...

Re: Hi from Bulgaria

There is no "best way", it depends on what you are doing. Are you using existing midi files, or are you wanting to use midi to write your own music? What style are you doing? What kind of instruments do you want? Control over what? If you want to make electronica with lots of oscillators, filters, a...

As a non-audiophile, after listening to both, I like the original better. It seems to have more stage presence, the remastered one seems to lack depth.

Re: for a friend and his hobby

This isn't quite the kind of music that I normally listen to, but I must admit that I found myself humming it today, then wondering for a split second "What song is that? Oh yeah, it's that metal detecting one!" I haven't listened to the latest draft, as I forgot to bring my headphones today, but I ...

Re: Orchestra Reverb

There is a nice Invada early reflection reverb, I've heard people say they really like it. *GASP* Invada ER Reverb is fantastic! I just tried it out over the weekend, it sounds great and has a really nice interface for sound placement. Used in conjunction with a nice concert-hall late reverb (I've ...

Re: Orchestra Reverb

D'oh! That should be the opposite. Farther back = shorter delay. Right, to paraphrase what you said, I like to think of it in terms of how long it takes for the reverb to bounce off the back of the hall and reach you compared to how long it takes the direct sound to reach you. I know it's not quite...

Re: Orchestra Reverb

A convolution reverb might work really well. I'm trying to determine a way to give the sections different stage presence, from front to back: strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion. I want the sections to sound like they are at somewhat different distances, with early reflections being directly propo...

Re: best or good strings?

You'll find around here that people get extremely passionate about their particular Linux setup. AVLinux seems excellent from what little experience I have with it, but it's not the only answer. With enough patience and tinkering, you can more or less turn any Linux into a decent audio workstation. ...

Re: Mr. E's

Thanks for the feedback, sorry about the confusion with dropbox... I really wanted to use soundcloud, but I think there was some glitch when I first tried to sign up that is causing me continual problems. The piano. With pianoroll? Or by hand? I guess the last option. I'm trying to get more in the h...

Re: best or good strings?

Holy ****. Keep calm. Like I said, I'm working on an orchestra template for Ardour. My goal is that when it is finished, other people should be able to just open the ardour project and have an orchestra ready to go. The only dependencies should be Virtual Playing Orchestra, Maestro Concert Grand, L...

Re: Orchestra Reverb

The reverb I use most is Zita Rev1 Zita doesn't differentiate between early reflections and late reverb (for that matter, neither does TAP), but now that I think of it, as long as the CPU usage per instance is low enough, maybe I could fake it with two instances, one for early reflection and anothe...

I haven't tried Calf Vintage Reverb, I'll have to take it for a spin. Just curious, what kind of music are you doing with it?

Re: Orchestra Reverb

Sorry, now that I'm taking another look around, I'm not finding any spring reverb plugins. I was probably getting the term confused with something else. On the bright side, my looking around reminded me that TAP Reverb has some concert hall presets, I tried that a while ago when I first started expe...

Orchestra Reverb

Is anybody here using a free/oss orchestra hall reverb that they're happy with? I'm using freeverb3 which sounds really nice for orchestral instruments and has features that I like, but the VST isn't compiled for Linux, so I'm using Carla's win64 bridge. It ends up using more CPU than I would like, ...
